Alright, I have searched all over the forums, Google, any many other places.

I recorded some shows in the MPG format with my HVR-950. When I play them in Media Portal they work fine and you get great audio.

Outside of MP is where I get hell. Every player from Windows Media Player to VLC only plays the video and no audio.

Loading up in MediaInfo claims Text RLE and Audio AC-3 and PCM. It lists AC-3 2 times but PCM 4 times..

MediaInfo even claims 6 video streams and 22 audio streams. WTF? I only recorded for about a hour and a half. Even 9 text streams it claims.

I already have an AC-3 decoder and mpeg decoder in VirtualDub, which also doesn't seem to want to open the file.

Am I missing some very important codec on my system or something?

I really want to convert my recordings because they are starting to fill up my drive.

    Well....

Well, I tried MCEBuddy and DVRMSToolkit and neither want to work for me.

    I even tried MediaCoder, nothing.

Am I getting problems because I choose MPEG instead of TS?

Well I switched back to TS and now Media Players (VLC, Windows Media, etc) now actually see audio in the file.

MediaInfo now reports only one audio and video source, not like 6 videos and 8 audio sources like the mpeg selection had.

So maybe I just gotta stick with TS only.

Don't know why the mpeg format is set to, but for me anyway, nothing can be done with the videos afterwards.

We are in discussion as whether to totally remove the mpeg option, just to stop this kind of thing happening in the future, the consensus at the moment is to remove the choice from TVServer config altogether :)

Yes, and I figured since I often use MPEGs that editing/converting them would be a breeze.

Yet, I never messed with a Media Portal MPEG.

Those MPEGs doesn't want edited or even played by anything. LoL.

It must be some sort of specially formatted MPEG because MediaInfo said it had AC3 and PCM Audio and had RLE text? I was like what?
