Hi, you know how we have 'My Videos'....i'd like to have the exact same plug-in 3 or 4 times but with different names...

like

My TV Series
My Movies
My Music Videos

I would also like them to all point to different default folders

how do I do it?
Do I simply copy and rename 'My Videos' or is there something special I need to do

you cannot do it (except if you can code)

you see all plugins have a static ID - if you make the same plugin with different ID (and then compile 3-4 or as many as you need), you could do what you ask

Multiple copies of MyVideos would be really great...i have the same reason - to make MyTvseries, MyOwnMovies, MyMovies etc etc.

I see MyVideos plugin is baked into the windowsplugins.dll, but i wonder if there is any place i could download the MyVideo plugin source standalone?
In that way i could try to compile the plugins myself and make multiple copies of it...

Thanks in advice
Martin

but this wouldn't solve you problem - you see you also need DIFFERENT CONFIGURATION for each instance

and I don't think you can have that

Having searched far and wide for months, I stumbled by accident on MP last week, tried it and found it to outperform all other similar pieces of HTPC software available. It is absolutely phenomenal watching the development path into the future as the broad forum shows. There seems to be one disconnect from today’s reality however that Nitro highlighted, namely the tightly packaged “base” into which the very handy MyVideos is currently firmly buried.

Reality of today is that many of us have relatively large DVD collections of different sorts, just like Nitro pointed out, that deserve their individual menu item. Once you accumulate close to 500 movie (film) DVDs, 200 or so Music DVDs, 100 plus documentary videos (i.e. IMAX based stuff), and about the same amount of DVD comedy shows one quickly runs out of shelf space and the investment of a few Terabytes hard disk is in order together with a MP solution that, as Nitro smartly suggested, deserve separation. Using MyFilms with the Ant database just does not cut it, the scripts for US use, like IMDB or DVDEmpire are not being maintained as well as they were in the past before IMDB and DVDEmpire changed their structure. In contrast, the MP IMDB script works absolutely flawlessly, great work!

Extracting and cloning MyVideos into customizable categories seems to be the solution. Not having gone beyond Pascal, coding for me is out of the question, unfortunately. While MyVideos is buried and deep into the base MP the importance of modules just like it would make MP further standout from the overcrowded field of mediocre HTPC software and I just could not figure out why there were only a few and not supportive responses. On the other hand MP bristles with, well let me be candid, limited use “funny stuff” either already available as a plug-in or being suggested and not necessarily focusing on the term HT of HTPC. Home Theater is fundamentally, if not primarily, Music and Video. Yes, weather is nice, as is an alarm clock, but what actually has that to do with HTPC. Just hop off MP and grab hold of the PC.

In summary, I strongly second Nitro’s opinion and his suggestion for functionally clones of MyVideos. There has got to some common sense on true HTPC use out there unless the majority of MP users wish to duplicate a video rental store like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and the like to cover the walls with DVDs in lieu of wallpaper.

Thanks to the MP team for this outstanding, ongoing effort to have MP to become the premier HTPC software. Before too long, someone will try to buy the rights to it!:)
