Hi,

some days ago I tried "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (german version with copy protection) with mpeg2dec codec and dvd navigator in MP and I wasn't able to play the movie. It was only playing via cyberlink powerdvd. But I have to say I didn't try to change the codec etc. to cyberlink's in MP. In MP it seemed to start the dvd at first but then I only got a black screen and nothing happened.

With "Harry Potter 4" (german version) I get a similar problem. The pre-videos are playing fine, but when it enters the dvd menu I get also a black screen. The sound and function keys are still working. After I press "dvd menu" the menue gets restarted and then I can also see everything. This is really strange.

Thanks

Sebastian

The mpeg2dec codec being free doesnt support commercial copy protection so it wont work. Youll have to use a purchased codec if you want to play those dvds back.

    or use www.dvd43.com as well.
This will decrypt the disc before it reaches the codec and so you can use mpeg2dec

    Sebastian,

this DVD seems to have some sort of Rootkit.
    see those links:
    German: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/71115
    English: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1926917,00.asp

Maybe that's the reason for it not working in MP.
Don't know about HP 4, but probably it has similar things on it.

Read in several magazines about the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" DVD causing sever damage to some installations.

I can't remember anymore what to do, but i think as long as you don't accept the EULA, it'll will not install this rootkit.
An without Autorun, you would be able to start it from the VIDEO_TS folder.

    regards,

    Helmut
