So after installing the plugin and glancing over the documentation - is it possible to place my own cover/backdrop files (which type is accepted? only JPEG or PNG too?) in the respective movie folder and have it picked up automagically? If so, what's file file pattern?

Thanks in advance.

This is configurable from the Importer Settings tab.

Thanks.

However, even when I put e.g. a cover.jpg in a movie folder (and adjust the pattern in that dialog) it's not being picked up. Manually triggering the import also doesn't do anything. Only the covers that were previously downloaded are being offered as a choice in the Movie Manager. Is there any way to trigger such a scan once movies are already in the DB?

EDIT:

Found it. It seems that I have to manually hit "refresh cover" on each movie, is that correct? Does that also pickup a fresh backdrop.jpg from the movie folder at the same time?

Easiest way would be to do the following:

1) Goto Cover Data Sources and Backdrop Data Sources (buttons on the Importer Settings tab) and make sure that the only active source is "Local Data".
2) Make sure your load artwork from folder settings are configured properly to your liking.
2) Shutdown MediaPortal and goto your thumbs folder on your hard drive and delete all existing covers and backdrops there.
3) Restart MediaPortal Config and open Moving Pictures. At this point a background process will reload cover art and backdrops for any movies with no artwork (everything after step 3). If Local Data is the only provider on the list (or if it's the top item on the list) all your cover art and backdrops should automatically be grabbed. This may take a few minutes to process so be patient.
