Crash on channel change (1 Viewer)

I have been using MediaPortal for a couple of months now, and I love it. However, there is one main problem I haven't been able to figure out. I haven't found any other mentions on the forums, so am wondering if it's just me or if there's something I'm missing somewhere. Any suggestions welcome.

Basically MediaPortal crashes when I change channel while watching live TV. However, this only happens if I switch from one DVB-T HD broadcaster to another. I live in NZ, and as I understand it, we have multiple broadcasters using different standards. TVNZ broadcasts TV One, TV2, TVNZ6 etc. and another lot does TV3. I can switch from TV One to TV2 and back without a problem, but switching from TV One to TV3 or vice versa immediately causes a crash. :( If I stop live TV, switch channel, and then start live TV again, there is no problem.

Thanks for any input.

I have same symptoms on 1.0.2, what your logs say? See this topic:

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...art-timeshifting-timed-out-waiting-pmt-59000/

First I got just this error message that Can't start timeshifting etc. (This came quite often when I updated mediaportal from previous version) but in clean/fesh install after few channel change whole system crashed.

Basically only way how I can change channels on 1.0.2 is to use same transponder and before I switch I need to stop timeshifting and after that I can tune it to another. Sometimes it works just fine, must 90% not. If I change frequency/transponder, whole MP will stuck...

    Mediaportal.exe APPCRASH on channel change

Thanks for your input, Jari74, but I'm not sure I have the same problem as you - see details below.

I have had this problem from the first time I installed MediaPortal (v1.0.0). I have done clean reinstalls and upgrades and nothing has changed the symptoms.

I get an immediate crash with Mediaportal. The windows error is: "MediaPortal has stopped working" and the details say APPCRASH in mediaportal.exe v 1.0.2.22555, timestamp 4a04b3db, fault module name unknown.

The mediaportal logs would seem to support the fact that the problem is in Mediaportal.exe, not TV-server. TV.log shows that TV-server started timeshifting for TV3 with no problem, as does tsWriter.log. This is borne out by the fact that the TV server is still running fine after the crash - if I restart MediaPortal everything is fine until I try to change channel again while timeshifting. It all points to a fatal crash in MediaPortal.exe, but there are no error messages to say why. The Mediaportal error.log shows nothing at all for the relevant time period, and mediaportal.log has nothing in it either.

I can recreate this problem every time I switch channel from one transmitter to another (e.g. from TV ONE to TV3 or vice versa) and there are never any error messages in any of the logs. I'm stumped.

Note that I have tested out the Windows 7 RC Media Center via dual boot on the same PC, and this does not have the problem when changing channel, so I think it must be a software related issue not a hardware one.

    Any ideas anyone?

Hi, did you find a resolution to this? I've just done a full rebuild of my HTPC (reinstalled WinXP and MP) and now have this issue too. Before it worked fine.
I haven't delved into the logs yet but will do so when time permits.

    Update:

I just tried turning off hardware acceleration in CoreAVC and the problem seemed to go away. I'll do some more testing and see if this is the issue. Anyone else find the same thing?

I never got this resolved, although my web trawling did lead me to believe it's connected to using CoreAVC and MediaPortal. I have another issue with TV3 in that I can't use EVR in Vista because of a bug in CoreAVC/Mediaportal (can't recall the reference to that issue in the forum, but it's here somewhere), and when following that up, I found a throwaway comment that the channel change bug is due to CoreAVC. If you figure out what's going on through your testing I'd be really interested to know. In the meantime I have just trained myself to stop live TV before changing channel...

So I think we have to wait for 1.1.0 final cause its postponed to this release. Meanwhile I stop TV Service before switching to a 1080i channel....

From what I can see in the links in my previous post and also here

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...request-here-48/solution-bug-0002069-a-57497/

it doesn't look like a fix is due then either unfortunately. :( From my limited understanding, it seems that TSReader does not pass all of the info that the codecs need.

From the CoreAVC forums the feeling is that this is a problem with TSReader and not the CoreAVC codec.

We may be in for a long wait on this one.........

Thanks for all the references etc. I guess we just wait and see.
