OK, just upgraded from RC1 to RC2 and installer picked up the right settings (ie. upgrade) but crashed during install of TV Server. I rebooted and re-launched the installer and only option was then fresh install. It only said the TV client needed installing so did that choosing the SQL database already installed option

Now I can not open TV config as I just get a lot of Gentle errors

Gentle.Common.GentleException: The database backend (provider SQLServer) could not be reached.

Are you using MS SQL or MySQL?

MySQL. Was a completely clean install of RC1.

Just uninstalled TV server and reinstalled (leaving DB in place) which seemed to work and TV is now working but something does not seem to be working in upgrade? (and logs seem to suggest it had installed ok ??)

I can confirm. I had the exact same issue myself. TVServer installation failed due to an exception in SetupTV in module KernelBase.
    Using MySQL too.

Not sure though what is causing it.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I used RDP connection to do the installation. Not sure if it made a difference.

Did you run the installer locally (singleseat)?
Or through RemoteDesktop / VNC / etc. on a remote PC (multiseat)?

Ran it locally (but surely running it via VNC would still appear as singleseat as the installer would be running on the singleseat machine?)

I take it that no-one else has had any issues with upgrading crashing during upgrade?

Uninstalling and leaving settings / DB in place has solved it but not an ideal solution

Edit: Might be worth renaming this thread to crash on TV server upgrade RC1=>RC2 as is a big vauge and could be seen as worrying to anyone else...

So far only you and arion_p encountered it.
Arion used an rdp connection for the update which failed. The other updates he did locally, did not fail.

So right now we do not know whats going on.

*edit - nevermind, you allready explained it in the first posts.*

You have me thinking now.... I was very excited seeing RC2 to download and it was very early but I do remember connecting via VNC but I am 95% sure I did the install locally, certainly the re-install was local.

I sometimes use VNC to connect and then use the touchpad on my netbook to control the HTPC but watch the main screen rather than the netbook screen... When first asked I was sure I installed locally but I am not certain now.

I should be able to check the event log tonight that will show when VNC connections were made, when install took place etc.

That said it does seem odd why RDC or VNC would cause an issue as although control is coming from a remote source all code is being run locally.

If it helps at all the crash was in kernel.dll
