Synopsis::

Media Portal is crashing when the FFDSHOW post processing is enabled for TV, and trying to watch TV.
I tested this with:
* FFDSHOW version Mar 3 2005 21:18:26
* FFDSHOW version May 26 2006 15:27:36 (msvc 2003, x86, ansi)

    Well, i can be wrong , but this seems to be related to the graphic card driver and not MP.
    Please consider that hardware acceleration must be disabled in the driver config when using ffdshow postprocessing.
    Though i'm not sure for ati , this is a known restriction of nvidia cards. Look in MP config and disable dxva or so hardware acceleration.
    Tell us if you still encouter troubles

    * I searched for dxva in MP (for almost a 30 min) and found it just in DVD section, I checked that, and it still crashes! If the option of disabling dxva is somewere else please tell me, and I give it a try!

    * Then I disabled all the dxav features with Ati Tray Tools in the Video Tweaks section, and the same thing, it crash!

    * I tried then to check out the Enable planar YUV media types (YV12,I420,IYUV) from the MPV Decoder configuration, and it works, but the video from the TV is a little shifted to the right and I see only the half of it, the other half is black. Now the filter graph contains the folowing filters:
    WDM TV Tuner
    WDM TV Audio
    %Filter_XBar%
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    Mpeg-2 Demultiplexer
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    MPV Decoder Filter
    MPA Decoder Filter
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    ffdshow raw video filter
    ac3 filter
    Sample grabber
    Video Mixing Renderer 9
    DirectSound Audio Renderer

    This list of filters is reported by ffdshow, and input for ffdshow is YUY2, and output YUY2.

    * If I change the television video codec to DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder and I still have the ffdshow post processing enabled, it crashes! If instead I change from DScaler Video Decoder configuration the Output colorspace to YUY2, it works, but the same as above the video from the TV is a little shifted to the right and I see only the half of it, the other half is black. The filter graph is the same as above, except the MPV beeing replaced by MpegVideo Filter. The input and output is YUY2.

    * Then I changed the television video codec to CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PCM4) ( from the Cyberlink power cinema package) with ffdshow post processing enabled, and the result is the same as above, it works, but the video from the TV is a little shifted to the right and I see only the half of it, the other half is black. The filter graph is the same, of course except the video decoder wich is Cyberlink! The input and output is the same, YUY2.

    * At least, I changed the television video codec to Nero Video Decoder ( wich comes with Nero 7 ), and it works perfect !
    Now comes the BIG surprise: the filter graph contains the folowing filters:
    WDM TV Tuner
    WDM TV Audio
    %Filter_XBar%
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    Mpeg-2 Demultiplexer
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder
    MPA Decoder Filter
    Generic WDM Filter Proxy
    ffdshow raw video filter
    ac3 filter
    Sample grabber
    Video Mixing Renderer 9
    DirectSound Audio Renderer

    So instead of using Nero Video Decoder, it uses ffdshow to decode the MPEG-2 stream ( this is because I configurated ffdshow to decode mpeg2, and I've forgot about it). The input for ffdshow raw video filter is YV12, and output YV12. The input for ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder is MPG2, and output YV12.

    Then I configured ffdshow to stop decoding MPEG-2, and I gave it a try ( still with the television video codec set to Nero Video Decoder ), and when started the TV it switched to MPV Decoder, and crashed ( MPV was configured with Enable planar YUV media types (YV12,I420,IYUV) checked ). The graph filter was the same as above, but instead of ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder was MPV Decoder. The input to ffdshow raw video filter was YV12, and the output YV12.

    So it seems that the only workaround is to set video codec to ffdshow ( but it doesn't appear in the list at television codec selection, so pure luck with that Nero Video Decoder :) ).

    I hope it's usefull what I wrote here, because I spent almost all day testing it.

    Any suggestions or question are wellcome!
    By the way, I really love MP, I had enough of that power cinema.
