Currently there exists only one cropping setting to handle overscan area of TV.
As HD broadcasts are getting more common I see the problem that there is no easy way to handle this situation with the current implementation as SD broadcasts normally have overscan and HD do not. If you try to find a compromise setting for all channels this always breaks 1:1 pixel mapping if you have a true HD display.

Possible solutions:
-----------------------

Save cropping settings on a per channel base. This would also have the effect that you could fine tune overscan for every channel as different channels seems to use different overscan settings. This furthermore would not even break GUI logic of MP as currently cropping settings are applied on the context menu of the currently watched channel.

Another approach would be to simply have an additional aspect settings like "1:1" which in contrast to "Normal" disables cropping altogether. A similar thing can be found on most advanced TV-Sets.

What do you think, or how do you currently handle overscan to get around these problems?

Regards,
grubi.

Maybe one of the devs could give a short comment what they think about it.
As HDTV is getting more common in the near future this is a must IMHO.

Until this is considered to be added you can try out the AutoCropper plug-in. If you set it to automatic mode it will vary the crop-settings based on how much under/over scan is used.

Thanks for your suggestion which I will give a try.
As I even did not get a comment from any of the devs I doubt this will ever be added.:(
Strange.
