I just tried the new SVN Tv engine 0.3 release and i got it to work (server and client on same computer) that's a good thing. But my CPU and Memory load is huge the SQL server that is needed for the tv engine takes 128MB and while watching television the CPU use is about 70-80% constantly. And on a PC with Pentium 2.8Ghz and 1024mb Ram i don't think it is ment to be so high. I would like to see this improved. I'm not sure if this is a improvement suggestion or a bug report. I can watch television but it takes a lot of resources.

An other feature i would like to see is a easy way to convert the 0.2 channelist.xml to the 0.3 export.xml format. Because while scanning not all my channels are collected. And the order of channels got all mixed up etc.

Message for the admin: Feel free to put this message where it is suppose to be. Because i don't have a clue

Try using sql server 2005 express. It has a much lower memory footprint
Second, we did fix the high cpu% when viewing/recording tv yesterday

i never got that high CPU load and/or memory usage.
not even when 2 cards where recording and streaming at the same time.

please give us more informations. which tv-card(S) are you using?
a screenshot of the taskmanager showing the active processes would be also helpful.

The problem is still there with lastest SVN... Mediaportal.exe has like enormous CPU load constantly and memory usage is around the 256mb.... I attached some log files to this reply that might be the cause. There was an error.log made but i don't understand what the problem is. To be clear Mediaportal Client and Server are on the same computer. Because i dont get it to work over my LAN i opened all the ports, read the wiki atleast 3 times to see if i missed a step or something, but that wasn;t the case. Even VNC doesn't pick up any signal from the stream... But that's a different problem. I hope you can look over my problem with the high resources. I love MediaPortal and the TVengine 0.2 is working perfectly for me. Just testing and trying if i get things to work with the 0.3 tv engine. But so far not so lucky with that. Keep up the good work!

    >>UPDATE:

I just discovered this is a general MP problem i also have huge CPU use when watching telly in normal MediaPortal latest SVN with the 0.2 tvengine. the CPU load is 55%-70% this time. i Run mp windowed in this case.

    NOT the tvservice(.exe) ;)

    could you please tell us:
    - which TV-Cards you are using
    - which codecs you are using
    - which MediaPortal version you have installed

btw. the error.log doesnt look good. but i can not tell you whats going wron there.
    maybe frodo has an idea

is that the latest public tv-server build you have installed?

I have the same issue, but have a PVR 500 MCE and also using MPA/MPV with all the latest SVN’s. I had to revert back and remove TV Engine 0.3 because my system memory usage jumped to 700mb and my CPU usage would hover around the 75%-90%. I did notice that after about 20min the CPU usage would drop to about 30% but the ram would remain high and cause my 1gb ram to start swapping to the disk, which obviously slowed down everything. I will try testing this again when I get my new server in about a month, presently I only have one box and I have to compete with my girlfriend’s TV-shows when trying new things.

    Cheers
