Area: Media Portal Program
MP Version: 0.2 RC3
Skin: Blue Two
Windows Version: Win XP Pro SP2
CPU Type: AMD athlon xp 1700+
Memory: Corsair 2x256
Motherboard Chipset: NVidia NForce 2
Video Card: NForce 2 builtin
Video Card Driver: unknown
Video Card Resolution: 720x576
Video Render Type: VMR9
TV Card: Hauppauge PVR 150

Synopsis:
the default recording quality, set in Configuration is ignored for all recordings (including Record Now). All recording is always done in highest possible quality (4 Gb/hour).

This bug was already present in 0.1.3.0 and I have reported it before. It has been confirmed by other users:

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=8659

Steps to repoduce:
- Set default recording quality to low or medium in Configuration;
- Choose a program to record from the TV guide, without choosing an explicit recording quality.
- Wait for the recording to finish and look at the file size. You will find that the size is independent of the recording quality chosen in the first step.

Workaround:
It is possible to set the quality for each recording individually. That recording quality setting will be honored by MP.

Quality control tells the hardware encoder of analogue hauppauge cards (only they are supported) with which bitrate it should encode the video stream.

    Hi wewe,

you can set the Bitrate for a recording and you have influence on the resulting recording size and image quality.

    See:
    Configure->Television->Capture Cards->Edit->Quality
    "Use Quality Control"
One Hour recording will give you:
    Low: ~400 MB
    Medium: ~1300 MB
    High: ~3500 MB

High is like DVD quality. Medium is very good for size / quality.

And standard setting did not work. You had to manually set the quality for each recording. Will test the fix asap! :)

    Hi,

ok, here are my testing results with latest CVS release:
    mediaportal-cvs-03-29-2006--01-04.rar

Standard setting works now for PVR 150! :)

But I have still issues with my PVR 350. Setting standard and explicitly medium still do not work.

Looking with the Hauppauge Tweak tool into the settings of the PVR 350 encoder i saw this after recording with MP:
    VBR
    Average 12500
    Peak 4000

    Flip.

    Thanks and congrats

For some reason I wasn't notified of the replies to my post, so I didn't bother checking before today.

Thank you very much for finally fixing this major pain in the rear for us Hauppauge owners. I was about ready to dive into the code again myself. This couldn't have been a big thing.

I'd like to congratulate you with the great work you guys have done on the RC3 and RC4 version. RC3 is the first version since 1.3.0 that I can actually use. Anything in between was total crap for me. I never managed to get stable TV output and timeshifting was completely broken. Even 1.3.0 can hardly be called stable because it loses the connection to the database all the time. Looks like 0.2 final will be very much worth the wait!

    Thanks again,

    Ernie

Please do so if you have the possibillities! There are still other places where work needs to be done and the MP team needs every single dev! Maybe you also have an idea for a nice plugin?!? Try to catch the devs on IRC if you are interested or have further questions.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but what is "good" values for bitrate to put there? the default ones I had were like suitable to a PDA or sumfin
