Hi,

I have a very simple question which hopefully won't offend the many brilliant developers that have worked on Media Portal.

I see that MP2 Alpha is released which sounds like a big step forward, but obviously needs further delopment before it will be at a stage where everyone will be ready to replace MP1.2.

I also noticed that Mp version 1.3 has just been released. my question is - why continue to develop MP version 1? I'm sure there's a good reason but it sounds like getting MP2 fully built should be the priority.

cheers - Scott

    Hi,

I guess instead of the 1.3 version you ment 1.2.3 :)

MP2 is not yet feature complete so it cannot replace MP1 in many living rooms and it will take some time until it is able to do so. There is need of updating the MP1, fixing bugs at least is really important. Also some work that has been done on MP1 can be used with the MP2 as well, for example audio renderer and native blu-ray support that I and few other have been working on.

Also as MediaPortal is open source there is no way of telling what the developers should be working on - if someone thinks that his/hers personal goal(s) can be reached better with working on MP1 code base then there is simply nothing we can do about it.

    Hi tourettes,

makes sense - it sounds to me like the key thing here is that MP2 is still a fair way from being at the same state as MP1, hence it makes sence to provide incremental MP1 releases to iron out bugs, etc.

And totally agree that a developer can work on any version of any piece of open source software.

    thanks - Scott
