DirecTV serial/USB control? (1 Viewer)

I'm considering moving from Snapstream BeyondTV to using the TV portion of Media Portal. However, I have two DirecTV set top boxes (both standard def. D11-500's) that I currently control with a a serial port interface.

Is anyone controlling these devices serially, and have more than one tuner? Is that a capability in Media Portal? I have searched the plugins and the forum and there is a plugin (DirecTVTune) and posts in the forum, but the plugin was last updated in 2006 for v0.2 and the forum posts were made last in 2007. Whats the current status?

Thanks,

Tom

I have the same issue. I currently am using Sage with 2 hdpvr / DirecTV boxes controlled via serial. For various reasons I am sick of sage and wanted to give MP a try. I have successfully gotten MP to work with my OTA tuners, but the serial channel changing looks to be a problem.

I did find a plugin but it is older and definitely does not work with the latest TVengine. I get errors when attempting to launch the TVserver config program.

I hope there is a solution out there. I have searched the forums, and it looks like the only option is a plugin / IR server suite / dtcontrol exe. It is a 3 way setup I have not tried yet. I hope there is a better way.

I am very surprised at the lack of this support. I would have assumed there would be more DirecTV users of Media Portal than I guess there are. I still have not been able to try the TV Server yet as I'm having other issues with my new ASUS motherboard / Hauppauge PVR-250 compatibility issues. Once those are cleared up though, I still hope to try out the TV Server. As like you, I want to try something newer than the stale Beyond TV. But this is a severe limitation / deal breaker for me. I am a C/C++/C# programmer though, so I may look into the feasibility of writing a plugin to give me (and a rare few others?!) what I want...

Would be great thing if you could re-animate the plugin. It's dead since a couple of years now.
Btw, regarding the lack of directv viewers, most of the mediaportal developers are located in Europe.

    Hey Gunn,
DirecTV & MediaPortal work very well together. I have recently switched to AT&T Uverse, but had DirecTV tuners prior. If you look here -> Directv serial channel changer - GB-PVR Forums you will find an application called Directv.exe that will change your channels via Serial control. Set that up manually, then look into the IR Server Suite plugin. The IRSS is a TV Server plugin that will control the Directv.exe.

Here is a writeup I did quite a while back on how to get Directv serial changing in MP -> https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ial-channel-changer-directv-43748/#post315914.

Let me know if you have any questions...
