I downloaded MediaPortalSetup_1.0_RC3_rev20432 to my AOpen Laptop, installed it and configured it as best I could, but when I 'launch' Media Portal the display is obscured with many black lines from the top of the screen to the bottom....

Is it that my Laptop is to old or can I do something to rectify the situation?......

I did what I understood to do (from the Readme.txt file but it still does not work... probably have to accept that Media Player won't work for me.............................

Try a fresh load and NOT an SVN. MP 1.0.2 is available but does your video support DirectX9 ??? How old is your laptop? -

Thanks for the reply, Andrew. I'm not all that technical and don't really know what an SVN is. Do I download it? My Laptop is about 6 years old, a bit of an antique I know but it's still running.........

If it's that old it may not be DirectX9 compatible which is causing the video issue. A SVN is a patch to the base code and NOT a full release... as a newbie you want to ignore SVN usage and wait for releases. There is a release 1.0.2 out you should download and install. First off, go to yout START box, Run and enter DxDiag into the box... see what your system says is your DirectX capability.

What do you want to DO with your laptop? ...with MediaPortal? Can you do these things already, without MP?

    Hi Braam en welkom hier

I also have an ancient laptop with much similar symptoms than yours. My problem is definitely the lack of proper DX9 graphics card. Luckily I have another PC where I can enjoy the wonderful world of HTPC's. You?

ek het 'n ander laptop maar wou die oue gebruik het......

I have another laptop but wanted to use the old one.

Sorry, if you have confimed that the GPU is the problem, not much that you can do other than upgrading. And that is not really feasible with laptops.
