Displaying Subtitles within Media Portal (1 Viewer)

Hi all, Just registered on the forum but have had this fantastic product on my home PC (XP) now for around 4-5 months and find it a fantastic and user friendly product with a really impressive GUI...

I do have one question about Subtitled films, specifically linking srt files to avi's...

I have in one of my movie folders (Pre-Scanned and setup within MP 1.0) only the following files...

<filename.avi>
<filename eng.srt>

When I play the movie through Media Portal all I get is the original foreign language audio track with no subtitles...

Please can someone guide me in the right direction as to how to get these two files to link together when viewing within Media Portal? I can get subtitles correctly using VLC Player fine...!

I always thought both filename for video and srt should be exactly the same.

ie movie.avi
movie.srt

FFDShow if you use it, can be expanded to accept the ENG bit i think, but I only have one movie with srt anyway, so you would need to check.

Thank you Mr Delusion... Shall try renaming the srt file to the same as the avi by omitting the ENG part of it and retest...

I name my subtitle files like this:

Movie.avi
Movie.eng.srt
Movie.swe.srt
Movie.<any word you want>.srt

This way, The language of the sub will display correctly when cycling through them i MP

I prefer to mux AVI + subtitles in to MKV and tag them with language tags.
You can simply do it in MKVmerge - take only few click - this process didn't recompres anything, it just change AVI container to MKV standart.

You can have x audio tracks and y subtiltes inside one MKV - very useful. And MKV will be little smaller then original AVI.
