Does my server have sufficient CPU power? (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

I'm thinking of using my old SFF PC as a server with a dual DVB-S PCI card, an old graphics card and no monitor.
The CPU is an Athlon 64 3200 and the machine has 1gb of DDR RAM.
I'll run it with Windows 7 and Media Portal, but I want to know if this set-up will definitely be good enough to record HD TV?

The idea is that I'll use a Media Portal client on an Acer Aspire Revo 3610, so although the server isn't up to displaying HD TV, the client machine will be.
Will this server be good enough?

I want to find out before buying yet another TV card...

Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,

CPU should be ok - The main thing it is doing is simply saving the stream to disk.

RAM is a little light - Even for W7 on its own, never mind with MePo TVServer and associated DB. I'd suggest 2GB minimum.

The issue will be the HDD for recording and timeshifting. Graphics is not an issue for TVServer

I may need to upgrade my RAM to 2GB, but I think that's the maximum it will take.

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, so I suppose that'll be fine for recording the stream.
    Cheers!
