Does or will MP support multicasting and channel data? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I dont know if I have correctly named them in the title but with my Satellite TV subscription, when I use the supplie decoder box on some channels, there are actually multiple programs running on one channel.

Example the Music channel has a button I press on the remote and then I can choose from about 6 different music clips currently playing also with the news channel I can choose to see world news, breaking stories, weather etc..

Wondering does or will MP ever support this feature or are we stuck watching only the default program being broadcast on each channel?

Also some channels have data running behind them eg I press a button on the new channel and then I get pages of text with news stories, or press the button on the music channel and I get pages of text with music news and charts.. Wondering as well if this is or will ever be supported in MP?

Hi Clone,

The new TV engine (TV server or TV3) has the funtion to retrieve all the program streams on a digital broadcast. Not sure about the extra interactive data though.

The link for TV3 is on the front page of this site. Make sure to follow all the installation instructions carefully though. Since it's still beta there are some tricks to it.

Thanks thats great news!!

Not really fussed about the interactive data not being available as I never used it but good to hear the multicasting is supported..

Does anyone know how long the new engine will stay in Beta for as I probably wont upgrade until the full release comes out

probably for a while longer. For the most it is very stable.

Remember also that MP itself is still in beta ;-)
