As using ReClock can bring up sound issues with ac3 sound and ac3 passthroug wont let you change the volume inside mp i ask myself if a dolby digital live able soundcard would be a help in both issues?
Does anyone use such a card and can comment that idea?

As far as i understood these cards can code the sound signal on the fly to ac3, if this is done in last instance it really should solve both "problem" if i got it right.

Even you cant use ReClock with HW ACC ( as far as i know, i think about to use the refresh rate plugin (and maybe powerstrip) to switch between 48 and 50hz depending on video source instead. Dont know how good that will work ) and my plan to get a harmony remote to controll my hole setup with one remote it would be nice to know.

I can confirm it works, i'm using DTS Connect right now for playback in 24Hz (24p) Reclock is able to manipulate the sound as it gets converted to AC3 after reclock has done its work.

However one other problem comes with it. Resuming from standy. No sound.. have to switch DTS Connect off and on to get it to work again.

I am using an ASUS DX series card and it has a DTS live function. Sounds similar. And I can confirm that it indeed does work.
Only downside I find about it is that it ALWAYS resamples the sound to 44.1khz. If the source file contains 48khz 5.1ch it is also resampled. In this case, I just want to use SPDIF passthrough. But this is not possible anymore. The result of the resampling is always causing a signal degredation in some way. If it is audiable, I dont know. But in theory it is there.

And about the volume thing. If one uses SPDIF passthrough for AC3/DTS, this means Windows doesnt touch the audio stream. Its just simple, what comes in must go out. (which I find very good, because windows always finds a way to mess things up for me). That is the reason the volume cant be changed as well. I just change the volume of the receiver. This is very easy for me to do, because I use a Logitech Harmony remote. It is programmable to simulate any remote you have (nearly). I have set it up as a standard MCE remote, with the exception of the volume. The volume commands are customized and come from the receiver remote.

I also like to play Super audio cd's, DTS cd's or FLAC files. This is a high quality audio stream and it is being decoded by my receiver. The result for me if I let windows touch the audio stream (by not using ASIO audio drivers) I dont hear anything. Same reason as described before, this is becaus windows touches the audiosignal and makes it total rubbish for my receiver. It doesnt understand the signal anymore. Result is sometimes silence, or a very LOUD white noise/static. But all of this might be way more information than you asked for.... :)

why do you need a special sound card to re-encode the audio to dts, lots of codecs can do this can't they?
you use the word pass through and volume control within the PC this doesn't make sense, if you adjust the gain then you are not using pass through you are re-encoding which is different to pass through.
if your display supports 24fps then no need to resample and re-encode the audio fps rate
