Dual FloppyDTV S2 install help needed! (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone!

My problem isn't directed directly at MP so i'm not including all details, I hope someone at this forum is using a similar dual/multi/double FloppyDTV setup and can guide me in the right direction regarding install.

I have been using FloppyDTV for a while and I wanted dual tuner capability so i bought two new FloppyDTV S2 cards.
I'm testing the cards with the included DTV viewer software that should be able to test the dual tuners.
I haven't had any success so far.
I have tested each card with a sat feed individually and they can both record/timeshift. But when they're both installed only one of the cards seem to work. They both get a sat feed.

(I have also tested this via the TVServer software from MP, and when i look at the Manual section, where timeshifting/recording can be tested, it's always only one of the cards that is used for recording/timeshifting, and both cards are visible in the config, and I have mapped all channels to both cards.)

I have both tried to use the passthrough firewire setup and also connected each card to a dedicated firewire port.

when recording via the Viewer and changing channel I get this error:

"All capable DVB adapters are busy.
no free device has been found"

This just seems very strange since the DTV info app can see both tuners!?

I'm wondering if there's a special way to install 2 cards? I have tried to install each at a time in my Windows XP box, and also tried to install them both at once and let the drivers take care of X 2 in one go, same result.

here's some info:

So i need some help on how to correctly setup two cards and how to configure them to work as dual tuner, so i can record and view two channels at a time.

I hope it's not rude to post this question here at the MP forum.

I can tell you that I'm using MP and are in the process of setting up a server/client system and it works great the thing I miss is the dual tuner capabilities. I hope I can make the FlioppyDTV setup work so i can get back to focusing on MP instead.

Thank you ( I have also posted a support request at firedtv.com but they're usually very slow at responding)

Regards
Nick :)

BTW: I'm using a Sat with a universal Quad LNB, and with a SmartWi wireless cardsplitter (have tested it for each card and it works) - Provider is Canal Digital.

Regarding the cabling from the Sat, i have 1(one) cable from one of the LNB's and then it's splitted via a 1<>4 splitter, the guy at the satellite store said this would be fine, maybe he was wrong. But anyway the channels used for testing are all on Horizontal, freq 11229 so if there's a problem with only using 1 LNB then I assumed it would take care of that.

Thanks again.

Do you have a non-mce Windows version and maybe the DVB-Hotfix not installed?

I'm not totally sure what you're asking, but the machine I'm using for the MP TVServer and the two floppyDTV's is an old windows MCE install that i have turned into MP instead. I don't know that DVB hotfix you're referring to?

Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

I have a few question for the base setup:

* Do you recommend using Win XP or MCE 2005 as base OS for MP? I think I'll try with a fresh install.

* When installing the tuners is it best to plug in both FloppyDTV's and install at once or physical 1 tuner card at a time?

* Should I scan for channels for each card in the TVServer config, or only for one of the cards and just map the channels to card number 2? (they're both for canal digital)

* when using the TVServer config area and testing the cards via the manual section, only one of the cards is used for timeshifting and recording even if i choose the other card, does this mean there's a problem with the card or is that config area setup to act that way?

I need a way to see when in the install process the first sign of problems occur, and I'm currently not sure.

Thanks
Nick

So, I basically have the same questions as you Nick. It's just that I'm using Vista, not XP. I've read somewhere that under Vista I don't need to install the updates because they're allready in Vista. And I'm not on Satelite but on cable.

Have you got it working yet?

Does anybody else have answers to these questions in his last post?

Hey Dave,

I got it working:

* Do you recommend using Win XP or MCE 2005 as base OS for MP? I think I'll try with a fresh install.

I use WinXP and I would remove Vista If i did a clean install since it's just complicating things. And i have no need for vista on my MP box, any OS that works would be fine.

* When installing the tuners is it best to plug in both FloppyDTV's and install at once or physical 1 tuner card at a time?

I installed them both at once.

* Should I scan for channels for each card in the TVServer config, or only for one of the cards and just map the channels to card number 2? (they're both for canal digital)

I think this is what made a difference for me, I scanned for channels on both cards instead of only doing 1 scan and map each channel to both cards.

* when using the TVServer config area and testing the cards via the manual section, only one of the cards is used for timeshifting and recording even if i choose the other card, does this mean there's a problem with the card or is that config area setup to act that way?

This is still working like this for me, I dont thin the manual section is made for testing each card, could be wrong but anyway the multi seat setup with dual tuner works :)

Another thing for the Sat users, It doesn't seem necessary with a dedicated LNB+cable for each floppyDTV a splitter box and cable does ok so far (I have tried both solutions during the "making it work phase"

Thanks for the quick reply!

I also scanned for channels on both of my cards. I will try to scan on only 1 card and simply map the channels to the 2nd card tonight when I get home.
