Do not believe you can run two sound cards on one system.

Windows will not allow it, i believe without screwing up, caused by the conflict between drivers (correct me if wrong anyone, as never heard of this setup).

I think windows goes fine with that.

After all many USB audio I/O systems are in fact "external sound cards".

Windows has the ability to select the directsound source and destination.

It is possible. But only if one is a USB sound card.

I am doing that as we speak, skype on the usb and music on the sound card.

    Thanks.

Misunderstanding here, sound devices are ok.

If we are talking about fullblown sound cards, why the advice always given to disable onboard sound, when using a pci soundcard like the audigy4 etc.

I suspect because you are able to free a IRQ. I would like to be given a choice, I agree. But something like 99.9% of users buy an audio card because they want something better than the onboard, not because they want a second one.

I am pretty positive that I have seen PC with nore than one sound cards, both working.

    First, why:
Because i want TV/video sound from my TV and music from the stereo and that can't be done with the MB or soundcards i have.

Secondly, it can be done and it does'nt screw up Windows, it was just a question of creative thinking:)

Music is apparently mapped to the standard windows sounddevice, witch was an old SB64, so i just had to remap the TV/Video sound to the MB sound device (SoundMax something) to make it work.

Thought that somone else had done this??

Anyway, i managed to sort this out myself but :D

@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help! EDIT: I now downgraded the server (as I did with the client above)...
