DVB EPG grab pushing CPU to 100% (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I have the TVserver and client installed on one PC. When I have " EPG grabbing while idle" enabled at the TVserver settings, my CPU goes to 100% load every 3 a 5 minutes, causing the whole system to stutter, including any movie or TV show I'm watching at that moment.

When I disable this checkbox, the problem disappears but EPG isn't being downloaded anymore.


Does anyone had this problem too and knows a solution?

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: 1022MB RAM

Could be the issue when updating database, my dualcore hits around 45% when updating epg, what happens if grabbing epg is only enabled whilst watching TV, is that as bad.

Just as a side note, ForTheRecord\Argus has the ability to only grab dvbepg between set hours, as a last resort try that, but to see the channels after tuning you need to link them to channel group\s, so not as simple as MP's TVServer to setup, also does not tune off-air\not broadcasting channels, so for those you have to do a day and night time retune.

Thanks for your reply. I will check the option to grab EPG whilst watching tv.

But I also should upgrade the CPU I guess. That some extra memory and a new gfx card were already on my list.

I will post the results when I have changed the setting when to grab the EPG.

Hi,

If I do a EPG grab during timeshifting/recording, I do not see any stuttering while watching TV. CPU goes to 100% load for a much longer time but without any noticeable side effects.

I guess this would be a temp solution until I have upgraded my CPU. Grabbing EPG at idle does have my preferences because I like to automatically update the EPG at night when the PC has woken up at a certain time. This won't happen now because the TV module in MP has to be first switched on.

Hopefully the new AMD dual-core I have in mind, will have enough power.
