Sorry, but I have followed all the links that show how to upload specs and logs. I have read numerous pages that seem to be out of date as well. I apologize for the newbie problems, but here goes. I have a Windows 7 home edition PC, 64 bit, Celeron 2.7 GHz, with 4 gig ram. This system is only used for recording my over the air programs and viewing them. I tried installing MP2.5 but it failed updating the Direct X. I forget if it crashed or not. Then I tried the 64 bit MP 1.38 and had the same problem. I tried updating the Direct X9c manually and that did not help. Each time I did a system restore to clean things up. Finally I found an earlier vs of Direct X which did install ok.

After that when I installed the 32 bit vs of MP 1.38 the installation updated the Direct X and completed. It Recognized my Hauppauge HVR-1265 but identified it as a WinTV 885 ATSC tuner. It scanned and found 72 channels from my antenna.

WinTV10 has been loading the EPG and recording my scheduled programs, but it has lately stopped programing from the Titan TV page and it will not longer program daily or weekly shows. This is all I want to do with this, record broadcast programs to watch later. I do not need MediaPortal for radio or anything else. I have tried all the settings for using the DVB EPG option that I have found here with no luck. I have used the manual refresh EPG and it says it is grabbing, but when I load MediaPortal TV guide it says "no data available.

Other plugins installed have been no help. According to the instructions, this should be just want I need, but I must be missing something. Any suggestions before I give up?

Dan

In the UK, our TV signals contain within them a 7-day EPG for all channels. This is what the "DVB EPG" support in "TV Server Config" receives. It also works for other countries in Europe, and elsewhere in the world, such as Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately...

My understanding is that the USA DVB broadcasts do not include a 7-day EPG. So there is nothing for the MP TV Server to receive. :(

In the USA (and possibly Canada), you need to use an EPG that is downloaded from the internet. The one that is usually recommended is "Schedules Direct", but it is not free (about $35 per year, I think). Having downloaded the EPG from Schedules Direct, you then use the MP "XmlTv" plugin to import the EPG into TV Server.

There may be other internet EPGs available for the USA, possibly some of which are free, but you will need to research those for yourself.

CyberSimian, thanks for the information. I do not understand because WinTV currently downloads EPG data without an internet connection. After reading on this forum I tested it with the internet disabled on the same PC. It does not load 7 days but there is enough info there for my use. At least with WinTV I can easily enter the time and channel myself. Only I have to do one for every day, whereas there was a feature that allowed me to program several days in advance.

MediaPortal looks nice but is almost useless for my purposes without the EPG in the TV Guide.

You cannot be the only WinTV user who has this problem. I would suggest looking on the internet to see if there is a discussion group for WinTV. If Hauppauge don't have a forum on their web site, perhaps there is a Reddit group or a Facebook group that deals with WinTV.

If an EPG is one of the features that WinTV is supposed to offer, you could try asking Hauppauge support to see if they can explain what has happened to the EPG, and how to restore it.

WinTV10 and MP TV server will be in conflict using your TV card.
This may be why the MP TV Server did not find any EPG. However...

I have never used TV in the USA, and I know only what I have read elsewhere. My understanding is that DVB in the USA does not contain a 7-day EPG, but it does contain a tiny amount of EPG data which varies from one location in the USA to another. So it might be a 1-day EPG, or a 6-hour EPG, or only "now and next" (i.e. what is on now and what is on next).

If @dlbeaty is satisfied with a 1-day EPG, he might as well continue to use WinTV, and not bother with MP. However, if he wants a 7-day or 14-day EPG, he will need to use an internet EPG. If WinTV provided a 7-day or 14-day EPG, it must have been downloading it from the internet. @dlbeaty will need to locate an internet EPG that can be downloaded, and then either discover how to use that with WinTV, or persevere with MP and use the XmlTv plugin.

Titan TV is a internet service that is used by WinTV at least back when I used WinTV.

I mentioned the problem with running WinTV with MP TV server because "Schedules Direct" plugin is a TV server plugin. even though it is also a internet service.

There is a conflict as you have said between WinTV ad MP TV. MP TV takes over the Hauppauge HVR-1265 card. I may be even getting more channels with it.

The Titan TV worked great until last year. Now it will not run the scheduler. WinTV scheduler will let me program manually but I have to set a program for each day. If I try to set up a daily recording it totally fails. I will see if they have a forum. Also might uninstall and reinstall it.

My point is that EPG does come through OTA signals, only not with MP TV in my case. I would like to know if others in the US have DVG EPG functioning the way it is supposed to.
