I am just a couple of days into using MedioPortal and have been trying to get the DVB-S part going. I have a clean install of XP pro, and am using a Technisat S2. It's BDA driver seems to be working because I can run a Satfinder utility and see the Satellite and channels, this driver is the latest one off Technisat's website. At the moment I have "borrowed" the 2nd LNA off my working Dish network box. On that box the signal is 78% and quality 85%, so I think all is well. The LNB is circular polarisation fq. 11250mh/z

I have tried the MediaPortal Autotune many times. It seems to be scanning and reports "locked" then "getting info" but the TV and Radio counters stay at zero.

** Although when I enter "0" mh/z in all, LNB boxes I get the same results so I wonder how true that info is. **

Question, in the 119degreeswst.tpl table all the transponders are listed as V(ertical), although the scanner seems to choose V & H as it is scanning. Why doesn't the table have V & H TP info?

I just wanted to get a couple of FTA channels to prove functionality but have failed. What could I be missing in the setup?

MediaPortal looks great so far BTW!

Please guy and girls I need some help. Further on this, today I tweaked the dish position and improved the Dish Network (DN) box to signal (S)=95%, Quality (Q)=98% (at the dish). The cable length is about 50'

I also installed DVBdream software and was able to tune it to the DN 119deg dish first try. I can view a few FTA channels. There are hundreds of other encrypted channels. The lnb cable is direct to the DVB-S card, there is no DiSEqC or a 22kh.z tone needed. I have a standard circular polarized LNB local Osc=11250mh/z

On the DN box S=75% Q=95%
On DVBdream S=100% Q=72%

So at this stage I know I have a good signal, the Technisat S2 card and BDA drivers are fine.

I then tried MediaPortal. It see's the Technisat BDA driver. I tried Autotune DiSEqC=none, Tone=none, Satellite=Echostar 7 (119W). I tried scanning as follows

LNB LNB0 Switch LNB1 C-Band Circular
0 0 0 0 0 11250

I also tried KU-band and entering 11250 in LNB0 and LNB1 etc. NOTE. When scanning I find that the Signal strength is always 100% (which might be right), but the signal Quality is always 6 out of 39 spots on the bar graph or 17% which is far too low. The software scans but finds zero TV or Radio channels.

I also tried to copy the digital settings (ANGEL) from DVBdream ( Audio PID, Video PID, PMT PID, etc etc) and trying to create one channel in MediaPortal. I can enter the values, but when I go back I find that all entries have changed to 0, and all the settings in DVB-T, ATSC, DVB-C have been set to -1. This seems wrong, because how can I go back and edit the Angel channel later?

Please, please, I love the functionality and layout of MediaPortal but DVB-S is my primary TV medium and without it working I just can't use this program. Previous to finding MediaPortal I did purchase DVBviewer it works but just didn't appeal to me. I am disappointed to not getting any help on this Forum so far. Please someone who has used the DVB-S and the Technisat S2 please let me know if I have missed something, a DLL, or a patch or something.

I have just read that MediaPortal 1.0.2 contains a TV engine which is being discontinued. I am wondering if this is where I have gone wrong, because I think that I said yes to the question "will you watch TV" in the setup. I need to read more. Should I have said "no" and installed the TV-server???

Thanks!

Fixed. V1.0.2 seems to have a problem with the internal TV tuner on DVB-S. I changed to the TV-server, this scans fine.
