Hi all Aussies

I have recently come over from MythTV and am having a hell of a time getting my DVB-T cards to successfully work under windows. The only one that is any good is the DNTV Live! Pro card I purchased off DigitalNow.

My other three consist of a Compro Videomate DVB-T300, KWorld DVB-T220RF and an Airtstar 2. None of these cards receive any sort of decent signal.

So I am looking at replacing them.

What I am after are suggestions on what are the *BEST* DVB-T cards for Windows XP that are available in Australia AND work 100% with MP. I want to stay with MP as I really like what it does and where it is going. This will probably be the only way I can do that, otherwise it will be back to MythTV...boo hoo!!!!

Any help appreciated

Cheers
Bruce

All those cards that you have should work fine with MediaPortal - could you be more specific about your issues - System Specification and log files would be useful, too?

    Hi Taipan

These 3 cards have been nothing but trouble:

Compro t300 - I have tried drivers 1324, 1339 and 1357 from Compro's site. Either the signal is rubbish or the machine reboots if you try and access the card.

KWorld DBT-T220RF This is actually a Tevion card from Aldi using the drivers that came with it. The KWorld drivers don't seem to work so I can't update. This card "works" but the signal level from ScanChanelsBDA is poor - strength 30, quality 25.

Airstar 2 - Using the latest BDA drivers from Airstar this card firstly is not recognised as a DVB-T in MP .02 (sees it as a DVB-S). Tv3 see it but tuing info is again rubbish - strength 0 quality 25

The DNTV however is the star of the bunch - signal fantastic. strength 85 quality 97

I am located in Riverstone NSW and have access to 2 locations - Gore Hill, North Shore and Illwarra South Coast. The ariel is tuned to Woollongong as it is the strongest.

Now, *all* of these cards performed well under MythTV 0.20.1 running in Ubuntu Linux. However, Myth just drove me nuts so I retreated to MP under XP.

    Cheers

Now, *all* of these cards performed well under MythTV

Then they should perform just the same under MediaPortal - don't take too much notice of the signal strength and quality readings that you are getting, many of the BDA drivers report incorrect data.

If you want help with these TV cards, then you need to publish your system specifications and attach the relevant MediaPortal log files. Without that information, we are only guessing ...

In my experience the DViCO Fusion HDTV DVB-T cards are not bad and I've heard good things about the DNTV Live, which I think is custom build DViCO do for DigitalNow, but I could be wrong?

I don't have any experience with the others.

Post as much info as you can and I'm sure someone will get you sorted out.

    Cheers,

I use the 'DNTV Live! Dual Hybrid PCI-E S2' which appears to now be a different card (mines red and was more expensive - damn it!). http://digitalnow.com.au/dvbtcards.html

Works perfectly with MediaPortal, more often than not, it's MediaPortal that lets the card down (crashes, weird behaviour etc.)

Well, it looks like a major machine/OS problem more than the cards. For some reason MP refused to tune with *any* of these cards but DNTV Live! tuned in fine (with 2 of them at least).

For now I am dropping back to MP2 (was on TVE3) to try and get the WAF level back up again. If I could only find the right CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file that allowed MP 0.2x to realise a Technisat Airstar 2 is actually DVB-T, not DVB-S I would be off and running.

    Cheers
