I am looking to buy my first digital tuner card.

Reading this forum gives a somewhat skewed vision of MP, since most people only post to get help when stuff doesn't work.
I rarely see threads that follow a problem to its solution.
I would like to hear from people who got a digital tuner card or USB dongle working with MP.

The list of recognized cards in the wiki (TV-Server/tvcards - MediaPortal Manual Documentation) is quite short. Also, as an Australian, I don't need a CI slot. Which leaves the AirStar2, but I have not been able to find this card for sale.

I don't want to pay for features I won't use, such as analog TV, FM radio and the like. I am happy with a single tuner, but I will buy a dual tuner card if it works.

Anyway, if you have a DVB-T device that is working for you in MP, please reply to this post!

Regards,

Marco

Hi Marco,

I'm using a K-World Dual-tuner USB stick and it's been running fine over the last 3-4 months. I got it from umart.com.au for around $70 delivered. It takes a single antenna input and I have had trouble picking up a signal for Channel 9/Go!, but that is more due to my poor signal strength than anything to do with the card. My set top box also struggles to pick them up . It looks like K-World do a dual-tuner PCI as well, which is even cheaper. I'd definitely recommend a dual-tuner - it makes it much easier than worrying about overlapping recordings and not being able to watch live TV because a recording is starting on another channel. According to this thread - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/tv-cards-333/dual-tuner-usb-stick-83997/, the card takes a little bit longer to tune in compared to others, but if you can live with that, I reckon you'd be pretty happy with it.

Cheers,
Andrew

Different country, but I use a Kworld 399U dual-tuner DVB-T usb stick in the UK with no problems (on Vista 32-bit). The Peak dual-tuner PCI card is basically the same chipset on a PCI card which also seems popular with MP users - because it's cheap & good :)

theres a bunch of australian dvb-t cards and usb sticks available here :

    DigitalNow

they all work with MP i believe...MP needs the card/stick to have BDA drivers(for directshow support)
