DVD playback problem (1 Viewer)

I'm new to MP but very impressed with what I've seen. I have one problem. DVDs don't play back correctly. When I try to play a DVD I can hear the audio but no video whatsoever (I get a blank screen). I then have difficulty returning to the main menu (I have to stop playing the DVD before I can return).

The DVDs play perfectly in PowerDVD (v7) so it's not the disk. I can get MP to play the disk if I choose PowerDVD as my external player - but I prefer to use the built-in MP player if I can (for one thing, it's a lot louder!).

I've tried various DVD codecs (I have PowerDVD and Nero codecs installed but this makes no difference). The only thing that works is the external player.

Any ideas?

Can you give details of your system particularly your graphics card. This has been the cause of problems in the past. It needs to be DirectX 9 compatible.

My gfx card is an ATI 9800 Pro running DirectX v9c.

Also AMD 3000+, WinXP Pro SP2 with 1Gb of RAM. MP v2.0.4.

I am new and having similar problem. When I play DVD I get a black screen when the DVD gets to the menu and when the movie starts, but have sound. If I hit rewind I get the Picture back and It looks Better than other software.

I am having same problem in GB-PVR, but no other dvd playing software. If that helps?

Oh Ya I have tried different Codecs. All the same.
