DVD playback has random stutter.
when using MPV/MPA codecs i have stutter every 2 seconds or so - constant.

when using NVidia PureVideo or PDVD7 codecs... it seems to play fine for a while (about an hour or so).. then all of a sudden i get the stutter happening again.

playback on MediaPlayer or PowerDVD in windows is perfect. Stutter only happens in MP.

any suggestions?

I've got the same(ish) problem. I've never had particularly successful dvd playback despite loads of experimenting. It's bearable but not perfect. The only advice given to me that I haven't taken yet is to reinstall windows and start again from scratch. That'll give you clean drivers and codecs.

I'm in the process of moving house (well... will be when somebody buys ours!). Part of that process is going to involve buying a new tv, which in turn will involve buying a graphics card rather than using onboard gfx. At that point a reinstall will be carried out so fingers crossed.

Good luck. :)

    Hi,
stuttering DVD is an endless story. Sorry not supplying a solution as I'm in the same situation. In my case I could nail down the problem to my VGA-TV- connection.

I'm using a VGA-RGB cable to my TV and therefore I have to use 'Powerstrip' to switch on interlaced mode of the VGA- card. In this mode, some copy protected DVDs do stutter. If Powerstrip is stopped and a 'normal' PC-monitor is connected, everything is fine again.

Playing these DVDs in WMPLAYER let a copy protection issue arises: WMPLAYER complains about "a problem with digital rights management". The DVD is a legal purchase. (<OT>The DVD is "SUPERDRUMMING" by Pete York"; you won't get this in the dark tombs of the net ... </OT>) . Perhaps some updates are missing and perhaps there is the core of the problem.

    What did NOT solve:
    - Exchange the VGA - card to a model with more processing power.
    - Removal of suspicious mainboard drivers ( here: NVIDIA NFORCE2 IDE drivers)
    - Firmware update of DVD-drive

So my solution is that I'll go for a VGA with a direct TV- RGB out. In my case I'll choose a ATI 9800 XXL formely sold by Medion. That way I can get rid of Powerstrip and then my DVD problems should vanish. Hopefully.

    Good luck and best regards
    /Gerd

none of that is relevant in my case.

i am using the S-Video output to TV.
nothing in the system is nvidia.

the fact that the DVD runs fine outwith MP would suggest that the problem lies within MP itself, otherwise surely i would have the same problems in WMP or PDVD.
