Issue:
I have english set as the default subtitle language.
I insert my futurama season2 disc1 dvd.
Select an episode.
Select directors commentary.
Play.
Set subtitles to commentary subtitles.
Watch.

Then on chapter change MP changes the subtitles to english.

Happens on all dvd's that have directors commentary subs.
(I've tested scrubs, american dad, family guy, futurama)

and as a bonus info:

both subtitles (english hearing impaired & directors commentary) are actually named "English" in the subtitles list.

It's not a bug.. it's a feature

No, I also have it... Every chapter the default subtitles is loaded. Already mentioned it sometime in the IRC but don't know if they payed attention.

well i consider it a bug since its driving me insane

i would like to be able to set no default subs at all actually

if i want to use subs, i select them from the dvd menus, or cycle throught them selecting the one i want during playback, like i did with my standalone dvdplayer

k i resolved this myself:

tortoiseSVN patch: http://stonebay32.com/~globe/temp/dvdplayer.patch

adds a "use language settings" checkbox to the dvd setup

if you dont tick it and save, the dvdplayer doesnt register any default subtitles or audio tracks, it only plays what you select from the dvd menus

if you tick it, the mp dvdplayer works like it used to

theres one bug which i cant seem to fix, if you dont tick the selection and play a movie, you get no subtitles, you can open the subtitles menu and enable subtitles and select a subtitle track and then subs work.

but if you select the subs from the dvd menus they get shown, even tho the GUI says subtitles arent enabled

okay, maybe the other users already found out that your "patch" isn't needed.

The option "Show subtitles" wasn't named clearly as it is connected with the language options. Its naming has been changed to reflect the behaviour more precisely.

This option tries to force the subtitle to the language you specify!

(Keep in mind that the DVD author has abilities to *override* your settings)

But your screenshot did show us a "real" bug
    It is added here:

I have it also. And god it's annoying, when the default subtitles wont' help you understand cantonese....
I have this movie that got three subtitles streams but they're all named French and only the second one contains subtitles :(

Just tested with the latest update, and no luck.
