hi there

i've got an annoying problem going on on two machines (both win xp pro sp2) with mp 0.2.0.4 (stable release).
i can not play mpg files. avis are no problem they're fine and even dvds (direct from disc) are playing without flaws...
i searched the forums and found out, that mediaportal uses the wmp10 to render the video files, so i checked my wmp10 directly an got the same errors (avis+dvd fine, mpg won't play). my mediaplayer classic plays everything ;)

i've installed ffdshow, dscaler, nv purevideo and even two dvd softwareplayers (powerdvd and windvd oems) but nothing worked. i can't get the wmp10 to play my mpgs...

does anyone has an idea, what i can try next...i'm a little bit upset ;)

regards

If FFDShow is set to be used for mpeg/mpg files, then should play in MediaPortal, especially with all the other decoders installed.

Is mpg files set to use WMP by default or has another program replaced the icons as default player. if so you would need to reset this to WMP in the options menu.

    hi
    thanks for your reply.
i changed the ffdshow settings to "libmpeg2" (also tried "libavcodec" -> i attached a little screenshot, just in case i fiddled with the wrong settings ;) ) and reseted the file-associations to wmp 10 but this didn't solve the problem unfortunately...

and in the mediaportal setup i tried every decoder which is in the dropdown list...with no success :(

what confuses me the most is the fact that wmp10 plays dvd's. dvd's are also mpeg2 or am i wrong? my mpg's are encoded as svcd with tmpgenc...could this probably cause the problems?

    regards

Hi...I have the OPPOSITE problem... I can only play .mpgs !

This has not alwas been the case.... I experienced a lot of instability with MP and my DVB-S card. As a result, lots of different software has been on a off my machine in the cause of getting a working media centre.

After overvocoming the tuning crashes, the player crashes, after even trying alternatives media portal....:sorry: I'm back - just to find it no longer plays all my movies.

ANy one else had this ?

When I use VideoLan as as external player- things work well (thats a great piece of software) but - I'm outside the UI of Mediaport.

And it's all about the UI :)
