Hi. I'm using the Vista Codec Pack (Win7 X64 version) from shark007, and all works great except I can't seem to get DXVA working.

I've had a bit of a play around in GraphEdit, and I think I just made things worse!

Can anyone explain to me some things I should check to try and get DXVA working? Subtitles aren't important to me. Thanks!

Also, not even sure whether the 8300 does h.264 dxva decoding, mpeg2 should be fine, really think you need 9400 upwards for h.264

    Apparently it does.

How are you determining if DxVA is working?

GraphEdit says it's not. Not entirely sure if it's correct, but my CPU usage is fairly high when playing back 1080p, so I'd assume it is.

And DXVA for what? mpeg2, h264 etc...

I'm looking at h.264 but actually I need to get it working on MPEG-2 and VC-1 aswell.

PDVD7\8\9 is your choice for mpeg2 dxva, MPC should do h.264 compliant files, take it you have already enabled that and selected use dxva when available.

I get about 2-3% cpu use in fullscreen for mpeg2 and around about 15-20% for 720HD files, not much point in going higher res as thats the TV res I use to output too.

powerdvd h264 codecs should also use dxva in mp but i found it was a case or renaming the file you want to play for sum reason it wouldn't accelerate mp4 but if i renamed it to .avi it worked fine. And as far as vc1 i gave up because it seems the powerdvd vc1 codec cannot only accelerate within powerdvd and i couldn't get the mpc codec to work... maybe you'll have better luck with that

So you are not using DXVA for your 720HD files? CPU usage should never go above 10% if you are using DXVA. For one, if your file (whatever it is, mkv, avi, etc) has subtitles, you will need to have DXVA render them. If you use DirectVobSub, as is normally the case when using MPs in-house player, you will not have hardware accelerated playback. Look at https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...48/integration-mpc-hc-subtitles-engine-54130/ for enabling DXVA accelerated subtitles for MediaPortal's in house player.

I use the stand-alone MP-HC codec for everything. The Cyberlink decoder doesn't seem to always place nice with ATI cards (I'm using a 4670 in my case). If you are using an nVidia card, you could try using CoreAVC which takes advantage of nVidia's CUDA, but I've never tried it myself as I've never owned an nVidia card for media purposes.

P.S. I know you said subtitles aren't important, but if they exist within an mkv container, then there's a good chance DirectVobSub will get in the way. The reason I decided to include that bit.

Thanks buddman. I had a look at the page you linked, but I think for now compiling a new build of MP is a bit much for me. Is there any way to just turn off or get rid of directvobsub so it doesn't get in the way? I'll just do this till MPC-HC subtitle support is integrated into MP if possible.
