Easiest\Best MP Remote control? (1 Viewer)

Hello All,

I`m hopeing that someone out there can help me. I have recently started using media portal and I absolutely LOVE it, however I`m having a few problems selecting a remote control at the moment I have a speed link MCE remote and the only way to get it to work is through a dizzying array of third party programs and system tweaks

I am willing to spend abit of cash on a new remote however not being very techie I don’t really think I want to re-configure my whole system or have to run more applications to make the a remote control work 

I just wondered is there a remote out there that will work almost perfectly with media portal without all this system tweaking including a button to start media portal.

Now I realise that this question has probably come up in the past, and I apologise if your all sick of hearing it. However after allot of searching I can’t seem to find a simple answer to this question.

Any advice offered would be appreciated.

Unfortunately that's because there is no simple answer.

The generic Microsoft brand MCE remote is what I use - Microsoft Media Center IR Remote and Receiver M17-7900 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

Plug and Play with MediaPortal - Just plug it in and tick the "use MCE remote" in the configuration menu. If you want to get more advanced and perform actions such as starting MediaPortal with a button, then you are going to still need a third party program to launch the application as far as I know. my HTPC is on MP all the time so I don't have to worry about starting or stopping the application.

that’s what I was afraid of the Microsoft Media Centre IR Remote you have looks very similar to the one I already have, apart from the speed link branding.

oh well I guess I’ll just have to try and see if I can get it working with the system tweaking....I hope I don’t break something lol

It`s a real shame media portal don’t have their own brand of remote control that would be real nice.

Download MPTray (homepage plugins + extensions then search), that will start MP from the green button, make sure MP always on top is selected under the general tab in config.

The harmony series is most probably the best remote, just configure as mce remote, also has coloured buttons to access full functions that the US remote does not natively support (coloured teletext buttons), plus controls just about anything else, don't lose it
