Hiya,

I can't get .mpeg to record in Mediaportal so am using .ts

However, I want to be able to cut out ads (plan to use comskip) and convert to another format for use on my iphone as well as other media.

I came across mcebuddy but wondered what people were using to cut out ads and convert to another format and finally what format you're converting to.

I've also got the TV setup to record the first and final 5 minutes which is so that I don't miss the show. However, I want to cut these out for films etc. Presumably the best way to do this is to convert to a file (say mpeg) and then use something like virtualdub?

Interested to know how you're doing this

For MPEG-2 editing without re-encoding (i.e. for SD and some HD content) have a look here Video Editors (MPG/DVD) for tools.

I use VideoRedo and MPEG VideoWizard, but these are both commercial apps.

Note that .ts means it's in 'transport stream' container format, .mpg/.mpeg usually means it's in 'program stream' container format, but the video and audio content inside can be losslessly converted into the other format if it's MPEG-2 (usually called re-muxing or stream conversion).
