ok, so lets take it from the top:

my Tv server consistently crashes when channel scanning

Yes I have the DVBFIX, and ive used it as per the guides, with no luck.

here are my settings:

Tiny XP rev09[3] +SP3
on an Acer Aspire mid sized tower , which is running:
MOBO: Intel 82865G and CPU: Intel Celeron D Processor, rated 2.80GHz, with 2048MB of DDR2 RAM
I'm using a 150GB HDD with 134GB free space (just did a fresh format and reinstall)
my vid card is a PCI ATI Radeon HIS X1550 256MB RAM card
(note NOT PCIe, just basic PCI - mobo doesnt have a vid card slot)
and my TV Tuner is an internal Conexant BlackBird based: CTX TvStudio Xtra MT-002

I've got all the latest updates, drivers and codecs as far as I can tell, based on 7hrs of Google searches and Troubleshooting.
Everything seems to work, one part independent of the next (or prior for that matter) Also the included software that comes with the tv tuner works and several other programs can access the card and correctly display my basic (analog) cable package. However, when I run the setup for my TV Tuner Server, using the latest stable build (1.02) it detects my card, lets me specify cable input, with Canada set as my locale, and NTSC as my video input format, and then when i hit scan on HIGH it goes through all the channels and says it cant find anything, if I set it to Medium or Low sensitivity, it crashes...

what am I missing or doing wrong, I've checked google and the forums here and I cant find any answers, please help?

PS: :sorry: admittedly it is 1AM here and ive been up since 6AM, and i am new to MediaPortal, plus i've been at this all day...

    Hi there and welcome

Although I do not have much knowledge about Tiny XP, it sounds like a scaled down version of XP. If that is the case, it is not supported by Team MediaPortal. And if that is the case, I would suggest you try again on full version of XP SP3 and if you still struggle, post full log files.

    Good luck :)

yea Tiny XP is a stripped down version of XP, it varies depending on configuration you can either have a full PRO or Home install, or you can reduce it down to just a few Megs, at the expense of select features or applications. Regardless, my particular setup simply has Outlook and IE removed as I personally consider them M$ Bloatware. I never use them... Other than that, we're looking at an XP home install, same as any other...

The only reason I'm using tiny xp is that it bypasses WGA and the need to input a serial number, as mine has peeled away...
I'll see what I can do to get things setup with a different version of XP or another OS entirely and report back. In the mean time, where can I get the error logs for a complete report of whats going on?

    found the error log:

Turns out it may be a problem with the SQL, I'm trying to circumvent the issue now and will report back shortly - Gawd I hate SQL... It gave me trouble running wow, gave me trouble running Aion and now this... It seems I am simply not destined to ever power my own servers LOL

    DAMN

so here we go again - im at a loss now - i guess it goes back to being an issue of OS version.. new error log report is:

Well obviously there are things you do need that have been stripped out, if MP didn't need them you wouldn't be getting errors :)

A good one to start with is adding IE back in. Although IE is a browser, it isn't self contained like FF or Opera, it makes its components available to anything else that wants to use them. this is a good thing. Why have a dozen different implimentation of the same HTTP component (for example) on a system when the one bundled with Windows works? Saves developers a lot of time.

A good example of how it can work is the MP installer could just tell Windows "get me this XML file" so Windows goes to the now non-existant IE components to ge tthe file. We get an error. Say that worked though, the MP installer would then tell Windows to "parse this XML file", well the XML engine could have been an IE component you removed. We get an error.

You can see a pattern emerging here. This is why the MP developers don't support anything other than a fully patched Windows install, it just becomes a nightmare and a waste of their time. If other forum members want to pitch in and help out then thats different. But like getting MP installed on Windows server 2003/2008, forum members are on their own with non-standard installations.
