EMail or IM Notification (1 Viewer)

When I am at work, I often send emails to my wife at home. Back when we had a PC in the living room that worked well, as she would hear the incoming mail notification sound and so read it straight away. However, now the main home PC is upstairs ina bedroom, meaning I usually get home before she ever reads the email.

It occurred to me that she always has MP running in the lounge, so I am wondering, is there any kind of MP plugin that can display an on-screen notification when an email (or Instant Message even) has been received on a nominated account? For the bonus point, the ability to also display the email/IM on-screen would be even cooler, although the ability to type a reply is probably not that essential (we dont have a keyboard connected to our MP machine).

I surfed the plugins repository and couldn't find anything, but surely I cant be the first person to think of this?

Great idea...never used the email plugin because of that problem...
Sounds like a great idea....perhaps extend the notify plugin to include email notification?

I'm looking forward to get feedback from beta testers, I plan to get the smtp part up and running as early as next week if everything goes on track.
