My goal is to make a low energy network around Mediaportal. Im' wondering if what is in my mind may be done.

1) a very low power server with a minimum hardware based on one minipc connected to the internet 24h/24h (if needed). It should download the EPG (with WEBEPG?) only, and a shared hard disk to hold the registered TV programs.

2) One clent PC with TV cards dedicated to save the shows on the server, and watching them too. With it I also need to schedule the TV recordings. It must be able to hibernate if not used.

3) One client PC just to watch recorded shows on the server and menage the scheduling of the TV recordings of the previous client according the EPG file saved on the serve. It must be able to hibernate if not used.

Do you think this is possible? If yes how can I configure the 3 PCs with Mediaportal?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I use a similar setup but computer 1 below can be more energy efficient and TV recordings are stored on the Mediaportal server because it needs to be awake for clients to work in latest Beta and below, maybe not in SVN? I haven't tried to get the recordings on the home server because the TV server needs to be awake anyway right now.

    (1) One home server HP EX475, hibernates during nights. Able to wake up HTPC computers from the web. Download EPG with XMLTV but not used for MediaPortal, only for my Pronto remote. Store movies and music on this computer.

    (2) Main HTPC, running two floppy-DTV with smartwii. Schedules XMLTV do download once a day. Hibernates when not in use. Win7 SSD disk-> back from hibernate faster than my projector has warmed up the lamp. Store recorded TV shows on this computer on a separate disk. Use BigKevs web interface for remote recording, has to wake this computer through computer 1 for this.

(3). Client HTPC. Computer (1) and (2) always awake when this computer is used. I have solved this with girder that wake the other computer up if asleep.

Thank you Johan. At this moment my system is pretty similar to yours.
