When the TVSERVice isn't recording or timeshifting then the EPG grabber runs and should become idle once it has finished a grab (it should respect its settings for grab frequency)

It doesn't ever become idle and always grabs.

The knock on effect of this is the setting in the powerschedular plugin for 'no suspend when EPG grab' can not be used as the EPG grab is never idle and hence the suspend is always blocked.

What I found that the EPG grabber seems to hang on certain channels. It seems that channels are affected where no EPG is send at all. Try to check only certain channels (one after the other) to track down the problem. Selecting one channel per transponder should be enough.

I don't think that selecting one channel per trasponder is enough...

TVServer does not grab EPG for channels that are not selected unfortunately... I also think that it should be possible only to select transponders from which to get EPG, not channels, because that way it's not possible to control from which transponder EPG is grabbed.

For instance my italian sky EPG is grabbeb from many transponders on hotbird, some of them have full guide with descriptions, some not. I can not control from which transponder the guide is grabbed so I have the problem that sometimes the guide has no program descriptions :(

That's not true. Take a look at the epg.log and you will see.

If you select one channel for grabbing TVServer grabs all channel it finds on that transponder (you could prevent this by checking "Store data only for selected channels"). So you could indirectly control from which transponder you want the EPG to be grabbed by selecting the apropriate channels.

A good check through my channels list found the problem channels that a rescan hadn't deleted/changed corectly.

Correcting for these and the EPG is idling as it should.
