We struggle to even provide good support for ATSC and QAM because we simply haven't got the team members to test or develop for those features. We *do* want more people from the US using MP!My view up until now has been that most folks who want to view "non-free" channels with HTPCs use devices like the Hauppauge Colossus and HDPVR or analog tuners to exploit the analog hole. That is part of the reason why I've been working so hard with <a href="https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-talk-45/hauppauge-hd-pvr-colossus-support-94850/" target="_blank">WileECoyote</a> to get support for that (Colossus, HDPVR, analog support - especially software encoded cards, which can be tricky...) up to scratch in 1.2.0b and going forward. As far as actual CableCard devices go: I've been working with <a href="https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/television-mytv-frontend-tv-server-90/ceton-cablecard-tv-tuner-mediaportal-90663/" target="_blank">DiskHead</a> to try and get at least minimal support for the Ceton InfiniTV, but that is going to be tough. Ultimately I don't think it will be the best solution since PBDA is so hard-locked down. When it comes to satellite I really have just had no idea that there were issues until I read your tutorial - I just assumed that all that was required was to use different polarisations (circular) and you were fine...So are you interested in bringing me up to speed and making some improvements? Here are some tidbits of information that you might be interested in...Regarding the next release ("1.3.0"): I have proposed some significant changes to LNB/satellite handling to improve that side of compatibility (in accordance with the work in <a href="https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/mediaportal-uncommitted-disceq-91185/" target="_blank">this thread</a>, which I think you know about). Part of that will hopefully include proper support for bandstacked LNBs - I'm hoping that you or someone else from the US could offer your advice and help with testing. I await the rest of the teams' approval to get started with that...In terms of the NIT vs. PAT + PMT + SDT approach: that has been discussed at great length on our internal forums in the last few months. The discussions have mostly focussed on improving the tracking of channel movements (changes between transponders etc.) and scanning speed. I think the general consensus is that we could do that better if we were primarily scanning NIT. In my opinion, knowing that compatibility with US broadcasts would also be improved would be a big drawcard for changing our approach.
