Hi all! I sometimes get a .NET 2.0 error when MP starts. After the splash screen, when the menu appears, the typical application error dialog arises, so that MP has to be closed and restarted. In the event log (application), the information about the error is the following:
.NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting

Id. suceso: 5000

EventType clr20r3, P1 mediaportal.exe, P2 1.1.0.16065, P3 4c3ebef2, P4 system, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4ba85929, P7 582, P8 17, P9 system.invalidoperationexception, P10 NIL.

After looking for a solution in Google during weeks, the only reference I have been able to found is this. However, it has been completely useless.

Anyone with the same problem?

Hi Eddie73, according to the documentation you need .NET 3.5 sp1

Hi Peter2! Thx for answering. I already have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed. In fact, I think I installed all existing .NET versions. According to the Add/Remove software tool in Control Panel, the following versions of .NET are installed in the system:
    • 1.1
    • 1.1 Spanish Language Pack
    • 2.0 Service Pack 2
    • 2.0 Service Pack 2 Language Pack - ESN
    • 3.0 Service Pack 2
    • 3.0 Service Pack 2 Language Pack - ESN
    • 3.5 Service Pack 1
    • 4 Client Profile
    • 4 Extended

Yes, I know, there are too many. But let me say it is an HTPC. No other programs are installed apart from MP (well, Acrobat reader and a minor application to easily switch video modes). Not even OpenOffice or Microsoft Office. So, all the .NET versions installed are required by MP. But the reported error is only related to .NET 2.0.

    Ideas please?

Ok. I think the log you are talking about is in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\log\MediaPortal.log

The problem is that the log seems to be reset every time MP starts and, as the last time I got the error was this morning and since then I have started MP twice, the content of the log file shows no error now. So, I will wait until the error arises again and then post the log.

I'll be back in a few days! (I usually get this error once or twice a week) Wait for me! ;)

Ok. I've uninstalled all versions of .NET and reinstalled .NET 3.5 SP1 which, in turn, also installed .NET 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, and their corresponding Language Packs. However, .NET 1.1 (and its Lang. Pack), 4 Client Profile and 4 Extended are not present now.

MP seems to start correctly by now, but I'll wait for two weeks to see if the error comes up again. If it does, I'll post the log. Otherwise, I'll write here to say that the problem is solved (and I will thank you both). :D

¿No ideas? I realised the error usually come up early in the morning, when the router (Internet) is disconnected, as I switch it off during the night. However, it has also happened when the INET connection was up. ¿Any ideas looking at the logs?

I think the Mediaportal gurus prefer when you follow their instructions when posting a log file. One of their suggestions is: do not copy/paste the text of your log file in a post. Perhaps if you remove your previous post, and then follow the instructions to create a proper log file, they might come to your rescue! No guarantees though :)
