Hi mackey,

I want to start a new feature request for an online search function.
For some songs the plugin doesn't find a matching lyric because the song name in my archiv is spelled in a little bit different than in the lyric databases.

For example the song name is "10 000 Years (peace Is Now)". Here the bracket could be removes or the numbercould spelled with a dot or without empty space.

What do you thing? Is it possible for you to create this enhancement?

    Hi heinthe,

Thanks for the feature request (and sorry for the late reply!).

Basically, it is up to the user always to have correct artist/title information in the music tag. If not, it is impossible for the system to know which lyric is to be shown. It is over the top to implement a dedicated service to hold all correct artist and titles information, and it would demand a rather complex regex search engine to work as intended.

But i believe that a less ambitious approach could be useful. E.g. enhance the "Find & Replace" tab page to also handle artists names. So, a find could be "AC DC" and replace would be "AC/DC". Since no online search is implemented, the pairs will have to written prior release by me. I could made a thread where "Finds" and "Replaces pairs are requested and then enter them into a grid on the tab page.

I'll think a bit about it and prioritize the little time I have to work on the plugin. I might decide to be involved in the work on MPII, and will accordingly have even less time to implement new features in MyLyrics, if that happens. Then only high prioritized fixes and feature addons will be consdiere. Anyhow, thanks again for the request, I will surely take it into consideration.

    cheers

    Hi mackey,

    thanks for your answer!

I think there is a littele misunderstanding in my qestion.

I don't want a additional function in the mylyrics-editor. What I want is a function within mediaportal.
I thougth about a search function whil listening songs. E.g. if I listen to a song ang mylyrics can't find the matching lyrics because of the wrong tagging I want to modify the song name / artist so mylyrics is able to find the matching lyrics.
Again: not a function within the mylyrics config app, I want a function within mediaportal to search while listening songs!

    Cheers

I can see that it would be a nice feature for users with an inproper tagged music collection.

However from a developer view I see two problems related to such an online search with MP.

Firstly, the function doesn't fix the source to the negative lyric search result, that is the tag, but only provides a way to search for a lyric despite the wrongly tagged song. If you want e.g. audioscrobber or another plugin to work with the file their devs have to implement the same workaround as this requested feature. that would mean a lot of silly redundant code here and there, which only is necessary for "lazy people" who doesn't tag their files properly. I natural don't consider you to be one of those ;)

Secondly, your request that there is a database with every artist and every song title ever made. Or at least a complete list with all titles to which MyLyrics can find a lyric on the net. There isn't such a database so technically there is no way to provide such a list.

To sum up; only users with a properly tagged music database should use MyLyrics. It is a requirement that cannot be ignored.

HWahrmann have made the excellent tagging tool 'MPTagThat' for exactly that. It even includes the same lyric engine as MyLyrics so you can search for lyrics inside 'MPTagThat' which is pretty cool.

    cheers,

funnny enouph, I tagged my music collection some weeks ago with "Mptagthat" :) But there are some single files which are not tagged in that way it should.

So my idea was to have a comfortable function for some files: for lazy people! Of course the tagges wouldn't be corrected with a online search, but I could have the lyrics for a song. (forget audioscobble for a moment, but think of it later....)

And speaking from a dev perspective: code, which doesn't evolve, dies :)

Actually, I don't agree at all. :) Code is static, and if it fulfills all needed functionality, is stable, and appreciated by its users, then it is still very much alive. Even without any feature enhancements.

I don't say that those three critirias fits MyLyrics (allthough I believe they do ;) ), but that is just the way I see things.
