ffdshow not working anymore (1 Viewer)

I have a problem that somehow started over night. I can't play any .avi files anymore. No divx, no xvid, they just don't work anymore. It seems that ffdshow is not working anymore.

All video files i've tried work properly with VLC. But when I try them in windows media player or MediaPortal, they just don't play. Windows Media Player reports that there was a problem playing the file and returns the code C00D11B1. MediaPortal writes the following line to the error.log

I tried to open the .avi files in GraphEdit but I only get the error msg: "could not construct a graph from this file. Have you installed all necessary filters?..."

I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player - nothing!
I tried to reinstall ffdshow - nothing!
I tried to reset Windows XP to a previous System Restore Point - nothing!

I don't have any other codecs (Divx, Xvid) installed, just ffdshow (tried different versions, right now i have 2004-10-12). And that used to work just fine...

Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help...

About 2.5 years is very, very, very old in software terms.

I know it's old, but obviously it is still suggested by the MediaPortal Team (see https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Codecs/Video/FFDSHOW-2004-10-12/)

But as I mentioned, I also tried the newest version - same result! But i'll try it again...

Latest version is recommended by Team MediaPortal, the info is not correct.

The old project "ffdshow" which is linked in that download isn't even active anymore. Current project is "ffdshow tryouts".

Look at this post and try what is mentioned in here for an install instruction list. Do exactly what is mentioned and see if you can get your videos playing in WMP10 first before anything else.

thanks for your reply ktjensen, but i've already reinstalled winxp and now it works again. It didn't took me as long as i feared (90 minutes) and now everything's perfect again.
