Hi

When I was trying to install Media Portal on my Windows XP Home machine the following message came up. What should I do?

“File wmp11-windowsxp-x86-ENU.exe still does not exist. Please browse your disc (filename should be closed to the proposed one)”

Your help is appreciated,
Regards Richard.

the installer tells you where to put the executable (the folder is called "DEPLOY" - from memory). Make sure its placed there and that the filename is correct.

Alternately, try installing it, then rebooting. - The installer should detect the installation.

    Hi

    Thanks for the letter.

Yes, it downloaded into the Deploy folder. I did not make any changes to the default install settings. I just clicked "Next" every time.

I tried it again and received the same message again which is “File wmp11-windowsxp-x86-ENU.exe still does not exist. Please browse your disc (filename should be closed to the proposed one)”

I meant to tell you that the above message that appears has a browse button beside it and is under the heading "Manual Download"

I clicked on the "Browse" button and it opened up the “deploy” folder where are two files. They are package-mediaportal and package-tvengine. Should I open one of them to continue the installation process and if so, which one?

    Your help is appreciated
    Regards Richard.

You do not need to run any of the programs in the DEPLOY folder.

You need to put File wmp11-windowsxp-x86-ENU.exe in the folder DEPLOY, then run the main MP installer.

If its not in that folder the installer cant find it.

As I said, if you cant get it to work that way, just install wmp11 manually and then run the Mediaportal installer.

    Hi

Thanks for that. I had to download the file separately and move it into the “Deploy” folder. I am surprised this did not automatically happen in the setup.

The software seemed to install all right. Three files appeared on my desktop. They are MediaPortal, MediaPortal Configuration and TV-Sever Configuration.

I clicked on “MediaPortal Configuration” and then the “help” button and then “Television”. It recommended WebEPG. I am not sure where to find that or if I need to download it or if I need it to get started. I was confused by the help instructions. What buttons do I click on to get started so that I can record local TV stations in the Cairns area in Australia? Is there a way where they can be automatically detected like on a TV set or would I have to find out the channel number or addresses?

    Your help is appreciated
    Regards Richard.

    Hi

In my last post above I mean to also say that I have the Hauppauge HVR-2200 duel tuner card installed. The technician said he installed the drivers.

    Your help is appreciated
    Regards Richard.

You should read the installation guides/forum more. Your question is not a single question, you need to refer to a guide.
TV Server can scan the channels automatically, it's all in the setup guides.

well thats the easy part done (installation) :)

I suggest you read the manual about how to set up the tvserver. The short answer to yr question is NO you dont need to input anything to hit channels on OZ TV. Just do a scan and as long as yr tuner cards are installed correctly the stations should come up. (TV SERVER configuration, not Mediaportal Configuration)

Regarding the epg, I think the easiest starting point is just to use the DVB stream and get everything working. Once youve done that add web epg or xmltv.

All the info is in the manual. https://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/Home

Also if you want some nice OZ TV logos, you can get them here

    Australian TV Network Logos

Stick with blue2 skin to start and avoid enabling any plugins until you have got the basics of configuration worked out. A common mistake beginners make is to start messing with skins and plugins before they have the basics ironed out, which can lead to problems.

    Hi

I went to the help link you suggested and ended up at the page at MediaPortal/Configuration/Television - MediaPortal Manual Documentation which is the page I got to before that did not seem to have step by step instructions. Perhaps I clicked on the wrong link. What is the exact link of the page I should start on? In the software I do see the window that is displayed near the top of the page at MediaPortal/Configuration/Television - MediaPortal Manual Documentation . The settings are the same as displayed on the page. What is the exact address of the page in the manual that gives step by step instructions on how to set up the television and record video? I use Win XP Home.

    Your help would be appreciated,
    Regards Richard.

Actually, Richard, I think I did give step by step instructions in my previous post. What happened when you scanned for channels in TVServer Config?
Just do a scan and as long as yr tuner cards are installed correctly the stations should come up. (TV SERVER configuration, not Mediaportal Configuration)

    Jim

[edit] ok just for the sake of clarity:

    Open TVserver config

In the left hand pane click on TV SERVERS to expand it

Click on the name of the first tuner card (you should have 2)

Select Country and Area, then click on Scan for channels.

-- if all goes well it should pick up channels, assuming yr card is correctly installed.

Repeat this process for the second tuner.

Click on OK to close TV Server config.

As you are using XP you must have the dvbfix installed for the tuners to work correctly.

Start mediaportal and go to My TV. You should have some TV channels there and be able to get a picture.
