It has taken ages, but I finally have a system, for the playback of the various multimedia files that works with no issues.
My setup is as follows:
-XVid ver.1.2.2.07062009 -latest would probably do the job. Can't say, as I haven't tried them.
-HD Pack 2.4: with ONLY the following installed:
-Haali Media Splitter
-Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 video codec
-Cyberlink muxer
This way I avoid any issues with trial codecs expiring: & I don't need them, anyway!
-ffdshow ver.beta6 rev2527 20081219 -I know it's old, but all I use it for IS UPSCALING SD DVDs! & it works!
The reason I have the XVid codec installed is that before I set the upscaling in ffdshow, it used that codec. Probably not be required if you are upscaling.
-AC3Filter ver.1.09a build date Aug 9, 2006 this was installed using Zoomplayer's install centre. An external software player I have used for years, & trust. I SPDif everything to my Denon AV receiver.
Within Mediaportal config, I have video codecs set to:
-MPEG 2 Video=ffdshow [for upscaling]
-H.264 video=PowerDVD10
-MPEG/AC3=AC3Filter
-TV codecs set to:
-H.264 video=PowerDVD10
-MPEG/AC3-AC3Filter
-AAC=Monogram AAC decoder (I live in New Zealand, which uses Freeview H.264/AAC-HE codecs)
This setup allows the correct playback, with hardware acceleration, of the following multimedia files, with the preferred codecs:
-*.mkv SD & HD files
-*flv & *.avi (converted using Super) downloaded from YouTube
I tried for some time to get Hoborg's SAF codec packs (both 4.00 & 5.00) to work, but had on-going issues -you are doing a great job: just not for me: sorry. [in case you read this, Hoborg] The main issue I had seemed to stem from the ffdshow builds you compiled. With the latest build -dated @ around late April (5.00), when changing chapters of the (SD) Matroska files -within MP- the video would hang, whilst the audio retained its normal playback rate, then the video speed would increase to catch up & correct playback speed would resume. None of which I experience with PowerDVD10.
Other issues included a black screen, after changing *.mkv chapters. If you waited 5-15 seconds, the image would eventually come back to normal playback, or you could move one chapter forward, then back, to gain the correct playback image. Also, the inability to prevent ffdshow from loading, even if their merits were changed within their config boxes. Sorry: no logs.
The one thing I would recommed for your future builds, is to allow the user the option to install your supplied version of ffdshow, by way of a checkbox -as Zoomplayer, HD Pack, & a number of other codec packs give. This then lets people decide if they need it. & Given, you supply PDVD**, anyway (in the unlocked mode), it's not really required for HD playback.
In case you wish to try my ffdshow upscale settings, I have included them. Plese set a system restore point before installing them; just in case.
This may assist you in your attempt to achieve the ultimate HPTC; if so, then all well & good. If not, keep striving, it may not be as far for perfection as you think
