Hiya, I was just wondering if anyone could look through my planned HTPC and just give me a heads up with anything that I might be doing horribly wrong. This is my first build, I have a friend at work that has recently got a media centre. However he bought it pre packaged and I thought it would be a lot more entertaining to make my own. I have recently upgraded my gaming PC with a new CPU, RAM and mobo, also I had a spare gfx card that I am not currently using. So having some spare hardware I thought I’d make myself one. I was looking at the windows media centre OS but having now stumbled across media portal I will not be bothering as it more than suits my needs.

Anyway this is my set up that I’ve planned.

Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI SE (ATX) :( limits my case choices
CPU: AMD 64 3700+
RAM: got currently 4 sticks of 512 so I can take out 2 if needed for space
GFX: BFG 7900 GT OC PCI-E worried about this fitting in the case but should be ok looking at pictures

I can’t get away from the above, I have them spare so I am going to try to use them. Below are the items I’ll be buying in the next week or so.

HDD: 640GB Western Digital 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
TV tuner: Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV card
PSU: Corsair Memory 650W TX SERIES ATX
Case: Silverstone LC17 case
3 case coolers: Akasa 80x25mm Black - Lo-Noise
Drive: LiteOn 16x48x SATA DVD-Rom Black (not really bothered about writing anything with the unit as itll be on my home network and i already have 2 pcs with DVD RWs on it)

Planning on upgrading with a 2nd tv tuner and another HDD 1TB a month after if this build works that is.
Just really opening the floor to any suggestions to if I’m making a mistake with any of the components. My biggest worry is that i know little to nothing about TV cards but from what i've read up on, this seems a good card for just freeview digital TV. Guna try to keep this up to date with my progress and hopefully pictures if i can find my camera :D

Hi and welcome to the forums,

    your psu is pretty oversized.
the one with 450W is more than sufficient.

Concerning the tv cards, just search the forums.
You'll certainly find enough stuff to read ;)
