So I grabbed the latest version of MP. Installed it and let it download all the things it required. Went into the TV server and scanned channels for my TV tuner. But whenever I start the MP client or MP configuration program I just get a message saying 'mediaportal configuration has experienced a problem and needs to close'. If I try to create a log file as described in the forum guidelines I get the message
'mediaportal watchdog

Unhandled exception has occured in your application' and could not find file mediaportal.xml

XP has only been installed on the machine for a week and has all the latest updates. I have tried installing and reinstalling media portal a few times, but the result is always the same. The installer always says the install is succesfull. I also installed the XP TV hotfix.

Program crashes no matter whether the my USB DVB-T tunners in plugged in or not.

Edit: Also completly deinstalled MP and mysql and reinstalled say I would not use TV so the TV server is not installed, but again I get same crash on starting MP for the first time. I had such high hopes for the program as well

Help...

Wow, a lot of response. Finally resolved it myself. Turns out my Arial windows font had become corrupt or could not be found by the program. As soon as I installed the font again the program suddenly started working.

I won't go into how annoying it is that a program fails in such a spectacular way with hardly any meaningful messages about why for something so simple. It only became obvious as my ATI catalyst control center started saying that it could not find the font.

So I must take my hat off to the writers of the program as for a free piece of software it does a hell of a lot. So good job.

But unfortunately I may have to look elsewhere as the TV part of the program (the main part I use) is very annoying. With previous TV cards and their native software up until now, I would be constantly switching between full screen TV and having it in a little window in the corner of the screen. In mediaportal switching like this could not be more frustrating. Every time you switch between full screen and windowed mode the TV feed turns off and has to be reengaged again. Even if in window mode you want to resize the windows a little bit, bye bye tv. And this needs to be done a lot as mediaportal seems to have no options to automatically change the window size so the picture is in the proper aspect ratio for what is being displayed, a comman feature on TV card software I have used up until now.

So anyway I say again good work on the product and I am sorry if my comments seem negative. Maybe there are some very simple menu setting that would resolve my issues. But search as I might I have not found them yet. But as it stands at the moment, I will be looking elsewhere.
