Hi All,

I have noticed recently that my sound level seems to fluctuate up and down by itself, but only occasionally. When is changes, it sometimes sounds like it is echoing as well.

I'm using Soundmax Integrated Digital HD and apparently I'm on the latest driver 6.10.1.6280 according to the ASUS Website.

I also have the issue where I occasionally loose all sound and have to disable / enable the drivers to get it working again or reboot.

Has anybody else experianced this and fixed the issue.

Regards

Graham

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your reply (as always)

I did update the drivers some time back by simplying selecting the "update driver" box in the sound properties. It actually just updated the same version all over again. The latest version is dated 28/7/2007!!! Does that sound correct to you? Is there a more correct way of doing it before using your "driver sweeper" tool? What about the "Uninstall Driver" option?

Regards

Graham

What model board are we talking about? Realtek has made quite a few different chipsets and some are with minor but important differences, like upsampling 44,1 to 48. Especially the 800-chip comes in so many flavors that you almost choke.

    Hi Owlsroost,

Thanks for the post. You guys are way ahead of me in this area!!!

I see the driver you mention has a more recent date. Just to confirm, I have an Asus P5K-E motherboard with Vista 32 bit.

Do you think this driver is suited OK? Also, why would this not be on the Asus site when I search for the latest driver associated with my motherboard?

I guess if it does not work, I simply uninstall and install the old one back - correct?

Sorry, a bit grey in this area.

    Regards

If you have enabled System restore in Vista you can make a restore point manually and roll back - I find that the easiest way to test out stuff like this. The drivers on the Asus site could be modified in some way, like Asus adding their own logo/features or other to them. Most of the time its better to get the drivers directly from the real manufacturer.

Conexant/Analog Devices don't have SoundMAX drivers to download (they never have).

I have an Asus motherboard with a SoundMAX codec, and went round the same route to find updated drivers.

Actually, Windows update has just offered a SoundMAX update for the laptop I'm writing this on....

Thanks for ther note - yes, true, I have actually done that before.

    Hi Tony,

If you have an Asus mothboard with Soundmax, did you download the driver you referred to above? If so, did it work OK?

What I'm trying to fix here is basically:

    1. periodic fluctuating sound
    2. periodic no sound (have to disable / re-enable driver

    Regards
