Folder.jpg and get folder name (1 Viewer)

Hi Team

This would be an amazing addition to MP if it were possible to choose whether to retrieve Movie names from the Folder name or the file name (As not all my filenames are spelled correctly with odd characters etc in the name). Also it would be good to check if folder.jpg exists in the movies folder and if so to use this instead of IMDB Images. This way you can have a higher quality image. And last but not least it would be good if the files in one folder were counted as one movie and played sequentially rather than having to be named CD1, CD2 etc.

If this could be implemented I would personally fly over there and have babies with the first person who solves it :-P (Female coders only Please)

Any ways this would make life a lot better for many of us I think.

I second this. This should be implemented by "folder library".
For instance I have one folder with divx movies and one with DVD rips.

I absolutely agree....
Each of my folders are correctly named and the avi, subs, nfos go in the folder.
This would be a brilliant addition.

Analyze This\at-vh-prod.cd1.avi
Analyze This\at-vh-prod.cd1.srt
Analyze This\at-vh-prod.cd2.avi
Analyze This\at-vh-prod.cd2.srt
Analyze This\at-vh-prod.nfo

Another suggestion, related to this.

Let's say I do an automatic scan of my video library, and it gets a film royally wrong, which does often happen. Within MediaPortal or the configuration, if I navigate to that movie and do a refresh, it looks for the name which is in the database rather than looking for the original file name.

Without wishing to appear patronising, if it got it wrong once, then it will get it wrong the next time.

I think it should refresh the database based on the name of the file.

Your right, but imdb sometimes has a mind of it's own,

examples quoting full filename

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring becomes "Fellowship of the Dice"

Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers becomes "Tottering Towers"

Always makes me laught though, especially when you redo the search manually and the correct film is first on the list, but you have had to type in the full filename again to get it.

I've noticed both of those.

Just to reiterate my initial point though, once the search has put the wrong film in the database, it is then less likely that a new search will find the correct one.

In your example, once Fellowship of the Dice is in, IMDB does also come up with Fellowship of the Ring.

At one point, I had a TV recording of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but I simply named the file "Last Crusade". IMDB defaulted this to "Lionheart". I have no idea why. Try to do a revised search on this, and Last Crusade won't be in the list, whereas if it was searching on the filename, it would find the correct film.

I think I'd go so far as to say that this method of revising search results is a bug.

Any thoughts?
