My self created mkv files often have a forced subtitle track in it. While watching some of this movies the forced subtitle track is never activaed by default in moving pictures. I always have to push the subtitle button in my remote to active them.

That sounds more like a problem with your splitter or subtitle processor. Are you using the MPC DXVA subtitle method for MediaPortal or VSFilter, or?

Hmm good question. I have never set this up in MediePortal so I would say the default one.
Because of the mkv container I have installed the Haali-Splitter.

You will need to configure the options in your subtitle processor then. For example VSFilter has a seperate configuration that can overrule any program using it to display subtitles.

I use the MediaPortal v1.0.2 hotfix to enable DXVA Subtitles via MPC (MediaPlayerClassic) Subtitle methods, which you can find @ Integration of MPC-HC subtitle's engine - MediaPortal Forum

Simelair patch is available for MediaPortal v1.1 (and some is directly incorporated if memory serves me well), but I stick with MediaPortal v1.0.2 stable myself, so that any problems I find in MovingPictures or MP-TVSeries plugins during testing are less likely linked to changes in MePo.

Looks like I totally missread the initial question.

I got subtitles enabled by default, and turn them off when I do not want them, via the 'C' button on my remote.

Forced subtitles therefore always kick in for me when they are embedded as such. As well as being the default SRT file that matches the filename as-is. Then I sometimes also have filename.full.srt and filename.dc.srt for the respective Full and Director's Comment subtitles, which I can then select from the Context Menu within MePo.

This works for AVI, MKV, ISO, VIDEO_TS, etc.

I guess the original question was to have subtitles be 'off', but then still respect the Forced subtitle flag, incase you have an English movie with non-English spoken parts, ala James Bond, Avatar, etc.

You should sign up for Google Code and submit an official enhancement request then. The problem will be in detecting the forced subtitle flag, not sure if MediaInfo supports detection for this.

AW: Forced Subtitles not activated in default

    e.g.:
I have a MKV-Movie with 2 vob-subs in it. One has all subtiles and the second has only the forced ones.
In mkvmerge the forced one has the forced-flag set. So while playing the movie with mpc-hc the forced sub is show by default as it should be. In moving pictures I have to active it manually by pushing the c button.

Then it really sounds like your DirectShow subtitle method isn't setup proper, and I would suggest you setup MePo v1.0.2 with the MPC-HC Subtitle hotfix.

Hmm I am using the RC1 I am not sure, but I think the sub patch is already integrated.
In MediaPortal config I am using the MPC sub engine.

So somehow the forced flag in mkv is not honored.

Well then you will have to commit to some trial and error, so try MePo v1.0.2 stable then with DXVA MPC subtitle hotfix, if problem goes away, there is a problem in MePo RC1, if not, then you got a problem elsewhere (splitter, etc).
