Freeze in Menu Navigation (1 Viewer)

MediaPortal crashes while I'm navigating through its menus. Each time the reported error is from DirectX (direct3d) while it is drawing a rectangle.
The freeze happens in multiple skins, using multiple modules, and at seemingly random times (i.e. it doesn't happen right away). I tried reinstalling MP and upgrading DirectX.

Has anybody else seen (and resolved) this problem?

or just go straight to the 7.2 driver (Feb 2007).
