Hi all,

So I've got a new HTPC set up with the DVico FusionHDTV Dual Digital card and I've got a question about the remote that comes with it.
I.e. this one:
Remote_MCE.jpg

It states that its a MCE compatible remote (it even has the windows button, etc), but it doesn't seem to want to work as one. At the moment I've just created a custom profile for MP that uses the keyboard shortcuts, but that's less that ideal (no windows key to take you to the home screen for example). Has anyone had any success getting this running as a proper MCE remote?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Alconja,

I'm having the same issue and would rather use the MCE remote capability of FusionRemote.

Have you had any luck since? If so I would like your advice.

Can anyone else help?

Cheers

Mines under a cupboard (could not even be bothered putting it in the cupboard).
The problem comes in with this and a few other remotes is that the TVCard driver software controls them, not it's own independent software, which you could program for windows.

That's why all the really useful remotes plug into a usb\serial port, so they can be accessed by other programs like, Girder or Hip.

That's why the MCE remote is so popular, plug and play.

Thanks for a prompt response, PD.

So MP does not recognise DVICO’s so called Media Centre configuration built-in to the FusionRemote software? (Besides FusionRemote seems to have quite slow response rate...)

I actually own a Logitech Harmony 520 remote that I used to use before my foray into HTPC and MP. Does anyone know if this is a good option? That is, does Harmony 520 have MCE functionality, compatible with MP?

Or perhaps I’m missing the point entirely and I actually need a “proper” independent remote transceiver with HIP? As an aside, can HIP configure FusionRemote to work on MP? I’d appreciate any advice/recommendation.

    Cheers

HIP should be able to use the Fusion remote. I haven't tested it myself, but I've got one sitting right next to me, so I might give it a go. There's a forum dedicated to HIP support and questions over on DVBOwners.com:

    http://forums.dvbowners.com/

One of the features of a plugin I'm currently working on is that it can take messages from HIP and use them to control MediaPortal as if the remote was natively supported by MediaPortal. Basically, it lets you use any remote or other input device that HIP (or Girder) support to control MediaPortal.

That's just one of the features of the plugin, but if that's all you want to use it for then it's worthwhile. I did at one stage release just the Message Mode as a seperate plugin in another forum post, but I haven't maintained it, so you'd be better off just getting the main plugin. If there is a lot of interest in just the Message Mode plugin I'll look at keeping it up to date. The main plugin is geared towards extending the usefulnes of the MCE remote transceiver, but you can ignore all that and just use it for Message Mode. Either way, check it out here:

If you've got any questions about the plugin you can post them on the above forum thread.

    Hope that helps.
