I've been a bit of a busy man since my last post in this thread.

The idea is still to build a mediacenter that is as much 'not there' as possible. I generally hate looking at cables and equipment that has no direct function (i.e displaying image or making noize), so they have to go. If I could I'd build 'em right into the wall, but that's not an option for me (now).

The kit I displayed in the thread mentoined above has gone through a series of changes:

First, the TV and the PC are updated. The TV is a Sony Bravia 40" screen, the PC is a Core2Duo system a good friend of mine was willing to give (hurray for good friends). Mediaportal 1.2b is installed and the awesome Mustayaluca skin is showing all the goods. I needed the new PC because of a switch to HDTV via DVBIP which my old system couldn't handle. I use an nvidia 9600GT graphics board and for a bit of silencing I bought a second hand SDD.

The home made casing you see on the picture still houses a H/K AVR100 receiver hooked up to an M-Audio 24/96 soundcard, driving Eltax linear response speakers. For cooling I fitted a pair of very silent 500RPM 12cm fans in the amp, which are powerd by the PC. Also attached is a turntable and a few layers of new - white - paint. I control it with a Logitech Harmony remote (the cheap one, a 300 I believe)

Secondly I installed a embedded Mini ITX server system, hidden away in my 'electricitycloset' (don't know proper english word), which houses al of my media, a usenet- and bittorrent client and an ampache server. It's an atom dualcore system, 1GB, Ubuntu, 5TB of diskspace connected over 1Gb network.

Pro's: Good WAF, complete setup, 1080p without problem, good capacity.
(sort of) Cons: a friggin load of work and thinking to make it all fit and work :D

getting there!

very nice... looks sharp. Wish my kids would grow up quickly so that I can plan something nicer. As it is, I'm always reminding them to not knock over the satellite speakers or have to turn the volume way down when they're asleep at night. Sigh..

Yes! Absolutly agree. What is not to be seen not to be seen. I'm going to still get the cables into the wall and then you'll see just what makes the noise or what shows me anything. See my setup. I was thinking about a niche in the wall, but my wife was against it. I barely won permission for slot for cables. Now I am waiting for soundbar with wireless subwoofer and rear satellites. Then once I start to cut into the wall.
