Hi,
I am having trouble with DVD playback on my HTPC. I am using The Polar Express as a test disc. I notice at several places in the movie, usually where there is very little motion, splotches of color (that is the only way I can think of to describe it). I have tried various things to test this. It doesn't appear when playing the disc through a dvd player and it also doesn't appear when playing it on Xbox Media Center. Some things that I have noticed is that when playing through MP the TV is in 720p mode. When on the Xbox it switches to 480i before playing. Another thing I notice is the FBI warning on the Xbox looks like a very smooth gradient where on the MP it looks like rainbow stripes. I am doing the best I can to describe what I am seeing. Not sure how to get screenshots to demo this.
I am using MP 1 0.2.3.0 with an ATI Xpress 200 using 7-11 catalyst drivers. I have tried the Dscaler codec and the MPV codec and both exhibit the same results. The PC is running at a 1152x648 resolution - this is due to that being the only resolution that I can actually see everything on the screen (the task bar, the top bar of MP when paused, the clock, etc.)
I have a Hitachi 57S500 57" Projection TV that will do up to 1080i. It has DVI input which is what I am using. It's DVI out on the back of the PC and DVI in on the TV.
The PC is an HP dx5150mt which has an AMD processor and a GB of ram.
I did go through a guide that walked me through "upscaling" the image using ffdshow as a post processor for MP. That seemed to help a little bit, but it didn't take away the problem.
I just am not versed enough in this stuff to know where to begin. I would imagine it is a codec issue, but I'm not sure. I will be happy to provide any further information needed.
I did get the audio all worked out. The system has an Audigy 2 value of which I purchased the Digital I/O dongle and feed the optical signal into my Marantz HT receiver. I am still puzzled why I only get 5.1 and not the 6th channel but that is not as important right now as the picture.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Rich
